Introduction
Consciousness towards reaching to the benchmark level of performance is needed in
terms of upgrading the standards and quality of the operations. Strategic planning and
management in this direction is apt for achieving positive outcomes. As a matter of
specification, fulfilling the benchmark criteria is assistance for enhancing the profit margin.
In this process, preserving the traditional culture is crucial for gaining respect, loyalty and
dependence from the clients and the customers (Hughes, 2003). This assignment attempts to
review an article related to the importance of benchmarking for improvement of performance.
Discussion
As the HIM manager of a hospital, I think consideration of one step at a time is
beneficial in terms of systematizing the activities according to the plans. For this, I need to
select the appropriate process of benchmarking. This can be done only if I have referred to
many sources and synthesized the ideas and perceptions. Holding talks with the colleagues
would be a productive step in terms of broadening my knowledge and thought horizons. In
this process, tactfulness is a vital attribute for reaching to the desired conclusion. Hughes,
(2003) opines that maintaining consistency in experimenting with the judgmental capabilities
is assistance in terms of polishing the decision-making skills, abilities and competencies.
In the planning pro cess, I need to make references to various sources like AHIMA,
American Hospital Association (AHA), Medical Group Management Association (MGMA)
and others. Apart from this, accessing the government websites would enhance my awareness
about the latest benchmarks, which need to be complied for upgrading the standards and
quality of the performance. Apart from this, Sinelnikov, Inouye and Kerper, (2015) states that
conducting offshore marketing through explicit research on the potential benchmarking
partners would be beneficial for me in terms of gaining an insight into the ways and means of
