INTRODUCTION
Leadership and management are crucial and helpful for individual and organisational
success and development. Leadership is about getting individual to comprehend and believe in
the vision which is establish by business firm and to work on accomplishing set goals. Whereas
management is more about managing and assuring daily activities are happening as they should.
For the completion of this document, Next plc is company which is a British clothing
establishment (Bush, Bell and Middlewood, 2019). This venture was incorporated in 1864 and is
headquartered in Enderby, Leicestershire, England, UK. It specialises in clothing, footwear and
home products as well as operates its business globally with the help of around 700 stores. The
written report will considered information about key conception of leadership and management,
motivational and group working principles and theory to efficient style of administration and
guidance. Further, it will explain about the extent to which efficient leadership and management
give to organisational efficiency, effectiveness of leadership and management behaviour and
appropriate tools to facilitate change.
MAIN BODY

To control the commerce of company in efficient manner, effective leadership and
management is necessary so that the firm sustain and survive in the market place as well as run
in effective manner. In world of leadership and management, there are several theories which
assist in operating the business of firm within a range of context and diverse environment. The
description of some key theories of leadership and management in context of Next Plc, as under:
Situational theory of leadership- This concept is developed by Hersey-Blanchard and it
proposes that no single guidance form is best. It based on which kind of leadership and
approaches are best matched to the task (Podsakoff and Podsakoff, 2019). As per this theory, the
most efficient leader are those who are capable to adapt their form as per the situation and
environment and look at cues like the form of work, nature of team and other aspects. Hersey
and Blanchard provided four primary guidance styles:
Telling- With this guidance form, the leader of Next plc can tell employee of the firm
that what they should do or how to do it. For example, if employees are performing in the group
in term of promoting the commodities and services of Next plc which is offered by it. Then,

within this phase leader will tell them about the working process, use of promotional strategies
etc. In it, employees are liable to work as per the decision of leader and there is not any kind of
discussion.
Selling- In it, leader of Next plc can offers constant supervision to their team, offering
continue response. It is also during this phase that the leader asks its teammates for information
to collect suggestions, developments and new thoughts which may contribute to the particular
work of promotion (Castillo and Hallinger, 2018). The final decision is taken by leader by
making discussion with team members and people are work according to that.
Participating- In this approach, the leader provides less way and permits group members
to obtain a more dynamic function in coming up with information and making decision. In Next
plc, in situation and work of promotion, the group member take decision regarding performing
the work and leader provide direction to them that how they can accomplish their task by
executing their decision.
Delegating-This style is characterised by a less concerned and hand off advance to
leadership. In this approach, the teammates are only responsible to take their decision and work
according to them in Next plc in context of their promotion task, leader is not provide suggestion
and direction to them.
Along with Hersey and Blanchard also recognizes four diverse maturity levels. They are
as:
M1: It denotes to telling phase within teammates have lack information, abilities and
readiness to inclusive the task.
M2: It refers to selling approach in which people of the team are enthusiastic and
passionate, but lack the capability
M3: It indicates to participating style within teammates have the abilities and skills to
absolute the task, but are unwilling to take accountability.
M4: It last level of maturity and denotes delegating in which teammates are greatly
talented and willing to complete the task (Hallinger, 2018).
System management theory- It proposes an option approach to the planning and administration
of companies. This concept emphasizes that business include several aspects that must work in
harmony for the larger arrangement to purpose optimally. The establishment like Next plc’s
success, therefore, based on synergy, interdependence and interrelations among subsystems.

According to this conception, workforce are the most crucial factors of the firm and divisions,
work teams and business units are all extra important aspects for development. In Next plc, by
considering this theory, administrators should assess patterns and situations as well as
environments with the firm to analyse best management approach (Hassi, 2019). They require
collaborating and working together on tasks to assure development. By executing this conception
the manager of respective firm can assist employees in executing their assigned and allotted
work in diverse environment in systematic manner which assist in success and growth of
enterprise.

the work of employees in effective manner in term of motivating and directing them in crucial

Motivational Theory- it refers to those concepts and approaches which used by business

Maslow hierarchy of needs, ERG theory, Vroom’s expectancy theory, Adam’s equity theory and
many more. The description of some of them as below in reference to Next plc:
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs- It is urbanized by Abraham Maslow that an individual can be
enthused when his wants are satisfied. The demands begin from the lowest stage basic wants and
keep affecting up as an inferior demand is satisfied. The hierarchy of desires are:
Physiological- It refers to the basic needs like food, water, shelter etc. which can be
fulfilled by Next plc through offering effective pay to employees.
Safety- It is highly required need of employees as when people work in firm they needs
safe and secure work place. By providing safe, healthy and friendly workplace, Next plc can also
fulfil this need of workforce.
Social- It considers need for affection, belongingness and love (Golensky and Hager,
2020). In Next plc, by offering friendly place of work and treating workers like family, this need
can also be satisfied.
Self esteem- It consist need for respect and recognition. In respective firm, when an
employee’s promoted for his/ her effective performance and work then respected by others.

(Weiss, Tappen and Grimley, 2019). By offering training and development programmes, the
management of Next plc can fulfil this need of employees.
Principle of Team work
1. Establish clear purpose- It is the primary principle of teamwork. In Next plc, when people
are performing in the team they set and establish a clear vision which assist in accomplishing the
team goal in effective manner as all the teammates will perform as per the set vision.
2. Agree clear ambition goals- In next plc, when people are performing group, then it is clear
that all people of unit are agree with set vision of the team because collective goals that need the
joined up working of the people in the group and employees perform their roles in effective
manner.
3. Define clear and divers roles- Before starting team work, people of team divide their role
effectively and perform their duties as it assist in accomplishing their work on time.
4. Communication clearly- Effective communication also essential as it assist in updating each
person of the team and accomplishing the vision in proper manner without arising any confronts.
5. Review progress in fair manner- After attaining and achieving aim of the task, teammates
analyse whole progress of work so that they can aware with the pros and cons of it.

There are different leadership and management style adopt be leader and manager
respectively within diverse environment or as per situation. Autocratic, democratic and Laissez-
faire are some leadership forms which is followed by the leader of Next plc in directing people in
different working situation of company (Bush, 2019). Persuasive consultative, participative,
collaborative and transformational etc. are management styles which are adopt by managers in
respective venture to administrate manpower and lead them.

management styles and approaches are crucial to a business organisational effectiveness.
Acknowledging leadership styles and approaches can assist a business venture to build a
foundation which can direct to develop productivity, subordinate retention and develop employee
relations. In an organisation like Next plc, if the leader and manger follow appropriate leadership
and management style then establishment operate its business in ethical and valuable manner.

effectiveness within its ethics and value framework (Bush, Bell and Middlewood, 2019). In Next
plc, the management follow the ethics and value like no strained labour or modern slavery,
liberty of organization and right of communal bargaining, safe and healthy functioning
circumstances, lawful working hours, fair wages and employment security etc. By considering
motivation theory of leadership and system theory of management, leader and manager
effectively meet these ethics and value of company which assist in organisational effectiveness.
When people are perform in task then they provide effective suggestions and help in taking
accurate decision which assists in enhancing organisational effectiveness.

excellence clothing and home ware commodities that are well completed, functional and safe,
sources sensibly and offer effective worth to assemble consumer needs.
Vision- The motive and objective of Next plc is to bring long term returns to shareholders by a
amalgamation of sustainable development in earnings per share and imbursement of cash
payments.
Leadership and management also create an effective impact on the organisation’s vision
and mission. Due to follow effective leadership models, theories and style the management of
Next plc form an essential influence over its purpose and objective in term meeting market and
target audiences needs by making an effective production of quality products (Podsakoff and
Podsakoff, 2019). By using effective tools and concepts of leadership and management,
employees execute their work in adequate form which creates an optimistic impact of the
company’s vision and mission by attaining them in developed form.

But by using effective change management tools and models, leaders and manager make it easy.
In Next plc, when company make any kind of change related to business then leaders and
managers can consider Lewin’s change model to facilitate it. The description of this tool is as

Changing- Within this phase, real change occur and workers learn about new behaviours,
processes and forms of thinking at this time as they are perform their work and task as per the
change.
Refreezing- It is the final step of this change model which refers to symbolize the act of
reinforcing, stabilising and sold dying the new state after the change (Hallinger, 2018). Within it,
people are not reverting back in term of ways of thinking and doing their work as per change.
