INTRODUCTION
Management and leadership are considered as the core of an organisation since whole
works are managed through this. Leaders provide guidelines to each and every member while
managers are responsible for allocating job to work forces and looking after various other aspects
(Giacalone and Rosenfeld, 2013). The present report is based on Easy jet which is lower cost
British carrier airline whose headquarter is situated in London Luton Airport. In this project
different leadership style and its impacts on team working is going to be discussed clearly.

CM1 Differences between management and leadership
Difference between management and leadership :
Management Leadership
This is an activity which is conducted by the
managers so as to conduct the work of the
enterprise in an effective manner.
It can be defined as an activity of managing
things in a best possible manner.
They are having a proper control all over the
organisation and everyone has to follow
them as well.
They are having Impersonal attitude towards the
vision and goals of company.
These are the people who are appointed by the
management for guiding the employees for
performing their work in an effective
manner.
It is considered as a quality of influencing
people so that they can help in attaining
objectives of the company.
Leadership tries to in-build trust in the
employees so that they can get motivated
and achieve the goals and objectives of
company as well.
They are very passionate about achieving the
goals and objectives of the company.
Comparison through theoretical aspect :
Management theories are implemented so as to develop the productivity as well as
quality of organisation (Pinto, 2015). Also, the managers implement various theories all together
so as to achieve better results. There are various kinds of management theories like contingency

theory, system theory etc. If Easy jet will have to implement any theory then it should be
Contingency theory as here the decisions are taken as per the situation present in the company at
that moment.
Whereas, Leadership theories are being implemented so as to support the management
for performing their work in an effective manner. Through this, the leaders will be able to
generate more motivation and confidence in employees so that they can perform in an effective
manner (Renz and Herman, 2016). Only one leadership theory is allowed to be implemented at
one time. If Easy jet will implement a leadership theory then they can opt for Behavioural theory
of leadership or contingency theory of leadership.
There are different leadership and management theories that is showing that both of it is
variant concepts. This can be better understand by following philosophies :
 Trait theory : This philosophy is saying that an individual is having special
characteristics by their birth and helps the corporation in selecting the right leader for
their firm.
 Behavioural theory : This concept is completely different and is contrasting the trait
leadership theory since this is stating that it is not mandatory that a leader would be born.
On the other hand, front runner is identified from their reaction towards physical, mental
and social attributes. Thus, overall it can be said that they are known by their behaviours.
Hence, Easy jet can use these for choosing the right person who can lead their work forces
towards right direction. Apart from this, some of the management philosophies are also present
that should be emphasised by the manager of Easy jet which is mentioned below :
 Contingency theory : According to this hypothesis, employers need to take decisions on
the ground of certain situations existing in company in-spite of focussing on other things.
 System theory : This theory states that how various system impacts an employee and
how staff members give influence on systems surrounding to them.
CM5 Evaluation of leadership styles
There are different types of leadership style exist in business environment. Each
leadership style does not fit for each and every organisation it all depends on working culture and
goals of a company.
The Laissez-Faire Leader: These kind of leaders hinders production as well as
performable of employees. Because there is lack of supervision and leadership within

organisation which reflects on company performance and economic growth. In addition to this ,
it leads poor quality of production, increasing cost of products and services.
The Autocrat Leader: This type of leadership creates huge demotivation among its
employees because in this leadership style, higher authority or mangers make and implement
decisions as per their experiences and knowledge to govern and operate an organisation or
enterprise. In this kind of leadership, there is no value of innovative or creative employees
because leader who follows this kind of leadership will not take inputs from its employees as
well as feedbacks from its customers (Wensveen, 2016). This leads to huge loss in terms of
quality not quantity, creates huge difference among higher level authority and ground level
employees.
People Oriented Leadership: In this leadership approach focus of a team leader or
division head is on supporting and guiding its team members for achieving task or goals in a
very innovative and creative style by adopting and implementing scientific business strategies.
This leadership approach will provide and eco-friendly and healthy environment for working
collectively as a whole team rather than competitively. This approach is very useful for
motivating and guiding employees as well as team members towards their roles and
responsibilities by organising conferences, workshops and cultural activities for exchanging
views, finding solution of projects or tasks and many more. This is most trusted and employee-
friendly or people-freindly leadership style which is adopted as well as followed by Easy Jet
Airways throughout their organisation.
CM6 Impact of leadership style and management theories on team working
There are both positive and negative impacts of leadership styles which is adopted by
Easy Jet Airways i.e. People Oriented leadership style. Such leaders will creates healthy and
employee-friendly ambience within their working business company (Hackman and Johnson,
2013). This will enhance motivation level among employees as well as it will improve employee
retention rate. These both factors are beneficial for Easy Jet Airways in terms of achieving great
economic growth as well as maintaining customers relationship. This relation oriented leadership
approach will create an ambience of working in a much more productive and appropriate manner
by organising learning and training sessions through workshops and culture activities. Which
will reduce communication gap between higher authority and ground level employees. This

leadership methodology will enhance company financial and economic growth at national or
international level, improves customers relationship, maintains goodwill of company in a much
more healthy form. By adopting this skill among Easy Jet Airways, customers concerns or
problems as well as employees conflicts and suggestions are discussed and solved in a more
fruitful manner. And this happens because of organising a platform of sharing and exchange
views with each. But sometime people oriented leadership approach may impact negatively just
like some leaders may too much give importance on their relationship rather than on projects
with colleagues or employees which may harm company in achieve tasks on time as well as it
will might create losses to company. These autocrat and laissez-faire leadership style is not
suitable for Easy Jet Airway company because these style create demotivation among innovative
and creative employees which reflects on their performance and productivity which is harmful
for organisation in both point of view one is to compete with its rivals as well as it decreases
economic growth.
According to the view point of Vaccaro and et. al. (2012), Behavioural theory of
leadership could be implemented by Easy Jet in order to select correct person for their
corporation who can guide them effectively in attaining all the aims and objectives. For this, they
have to look after on behaviours of workers and their respond towards different issues. If they
found some one suitable and efficient as per their job role, then they can assign them as leader of
their organisation. This will impact positively on the overall team member since they would
receive proper guide while doing any work. This may inspire or motivate them in increasing their
efficiencies and in turn venture can yield best returns.
On the contrary, Pinto (2015) stated that trait theory could also be implemented by Easy
jet. But for this company has to focus more in their employees in order to discover such
attributes that they want in their leader.
As per , Contingency theory of management can also be executed by Easy jet wherein manager
has to work according to the situations occurs and adopt suitable strategies as per that.
On the other hand, Giacalone and Rosenfeld (2013) thought that system theory could be
applied in company for doing the same job but for this employers have to understand about the
patterns as well as event happening at work station. This would aid them in coordinating or
arranging programmes.

CONCLUSION
From the above based report, it can be summarised that Easy jet needs to follow better
leadership styles in order to provide proper guidance to their workers. At the same time, they
need to focus on management and leadership theories as well so that they receive best outcome
and attain numerous of benefits.
