INTRODUCTIONOperation management is basically an area of management that is linked with designingand controlling the process of production and re-designing. Present study will focus on ASDAStores Ltd company. It is retail online fresh grocery store that has been headquartered in UnitedKingdom, London. Task 1 has presented the company Marks and Spencer that is an online retailstore. This helps them in gaining competitive advantage. Organisation is been founded in 1949.They have unique selling chain that has distributing channels. Firm is engaged in sellingproducts through their online channels. Report focuses on roles and responsibilities performed byleaders and managers in the organisation. It highlights upon differences and similarities ofleaders and mangers. Various leadership theories like System leadership, situational leadership,and contingency leadership has been discussed in the study. Also it lays emphasis on variouschannels taken by organisation to increase their efficiency. TASK 1a) Differences and similarities between a leader and manager considering their roles andcharacteristics.Differences between a leader and manager are:LeaderManagerLeaders focusses on creating a vision andengage and inspire people to achievethem in reality.Leaders always believe in changes forinnovation(McCleskey, J.A., 2014.).They understand the fact that changescan make things better even if they areworking properly before changes.Leaders create their own unique style.They are innovative, transparent andauthentic. Leaders always try new thingsknowingly they may fail or success orManagers Focuses on creating andachieving goals, as done in M & S.Managers try to maintain their status i.e.they stick with their work but try to makethem better by refining them.Managers always copy what they learnfrom others, adopt their style rather thanmaking their own leadership style.Managers try to control or minimize riskas done in all the organization like M&S.1

we can say that they are comfortabletaking risks.Leaders are not scared of the long pull,they intentionally do what they saywithout receiving any awards.Leaders try to learn new things daily, sothat they don't stand still to fall behind.They curiously seek information on newtopics.Leaders always know who theirstakeholders are and always stick withthem to know their visions and deliverresults they want. Like in M&S all thestakeholders and Leader are known toeach other and know each other They tryto remain loyal to their work.Leaders know all the people who workwith them are able to find answers orhave answers. They do not tell themwhat to do or what not to do or how thatparticular work can be done.They never try new things, they alwaystry to control or rather avoid problems.Managers always try to work on shortgoals and always seek more appreciation,acknowledgement and rewards.Managers never try innovation, theyalways stick to the things, skills andbehaviour which made them successful.Managers always try to build system orstructure and process to achieve setgoals. Even they work with individualbut to achieve their goals or objective.Managers directs its employees andassign them tasks, guides them how toaccomplish their task.Similarities between a leader and manager are:Both leaders and managers try to maintaindiscipline and order in the organization. They both work on direct and indirect operations in anorganization so that its system is crystal clear(Mendenhall and et.al., 2017). Both leaders andmanagers concentrates on relationship between people so that proper decisions can be taken toachieve goals and maintain structure. They always work together to inspire people for theireffective performance which can influence the outcomes.2
