INTRODUCTIONOperation Management is the central function of all organisations. It is concerned withplanning, organising, coordination as well as monitoring and controlling in context of productionand manufacturing. It also involves utilization of resources from staff, material, equipment andtechnologies (Chen and et. al., 2011). The project report is based on Boston Consultancy Group.The company was established in the year 1963 by Bruce Henderson. For them, it is veryimportant to manage activities as well as monitor or control them effectively. This reportincludes role of manager and leader in the organisation as well as various theories of leadership.Also, key approaches of operation management are discussed here along with the impact ofbusiness environment upon operational management. TASK 1P1. Different roles and characteristics of leader and managerIn a business organisation, manager and leader both provide various services to achievetheir future objectives effectively. They both are very different to each other and play variousroles in the organisation like: ManagerManager is an individual who creates effective objectives and goals for the company aswell as work to organise them according to their employee's skills and efficiency. They are therisk takers and task oriented in their approaches. There are various role and features of managerin Boston Consultancy Group such as: Role of ManagerCreate a goal Manager of an organisation works to create objectives and goals of theorganisation that their employees need to achieve through planning and strategies. This objecthelps to provide effective and working direction to the employees to get them easily. Organise In this process, manager provides various responsibilities to the employeesaccording to their skills and capacity. This is the next step after creating an effective objectivefor the firm. In this process, manager needs to understand strengths and weaknesses of theirworkforce before allocating different tasks to them (Cruz and Marques, 2011). Characteristics of the Manager1

DisciplineManagers are generally calm and disciplined by their nature. They observeeach and every aspect of the organisation and provide their decision after this. This is the mainfeature of manager because they are responsible to create a positive working environment in theirfirm. Commitment Manager of a company always have to be more passionate towards theirwork and responsibility because employees always follow their directions and guidelines. So,they need to be more responsible towards their commitment and approaches. LeadersLeader is a different personality in the organisation who works to provide specificguidelines and motivation to others employees. Leaders help themselves and others to do rightthing at the correct time. They basically help to create various strategies to achieve organisation'sobjectives effectively. Leaders motivate and inspire people to engage with the vision. Role of leadersBuild a team Leader works to build a strong team in the organisation. In this process,they monitor and analyse about employee’s skills and their capacity of working. An effectiveworkforce can easily achieve all the objectives of organisation and helps to make high goodwillin the market (Expósito, 2016). Provide training In this process, leader analyses their employee’s skills or workingcapacity. After this, they provide effective training and learning to improve skills and workingcapacity to achieve their future objectives. This process helps to make effective planning andstrategy for gaining desired objectives and future success. Characteristics of LeadersInspiring behaviour Leader always inspire their co-workers towards work and futureobjectives. In this process, they provide guidelines to them to make various strategies andplanning to achieve success easily. Employees of company always follow their directions andguidelines (Fayol, 2016). Confident A leader needs to be very confident in his/her working approach. Theyalways set an example for other employees which motivate and inspire them to follow andperform their tasks accordingly. 2
