INTRODUCTION
Operations management is regarded as the concept which deals with administration and
control of production and associated procedures within the confines of an entity. This becomes
important so as to ensure delivery of high quality offerings. In other words, it can be said that
operational management is aimed at ensuring execution of operations in an effective and
efficient manner by making use of techniques and methods pertaining to this concept. This
project is based upon analysis of operations management principles and methods as applied
within Bentley Motors. This is a multinational automotive organisation indulged in production,
marketing and sales of luxury vehicles across the global territory. This company is
acknowledged to be the subsidiary of Volkswagen and has its headquarter within England, UK.
The assignment is categorised into 2 tasks whereby the first part consists of role of leaders and
managers, role of leadership and management as per several situations and approaches to
leadership. Apart from this, the second part constitutes operations management approaches along
with effects of environmental aspects on leaders' and managers' decisions.
PART 1
Introduction to organisation and management structure
Bentley Motors Ltd is one of the top notch companies which has been functioning within
the confines of automotive sector. Its domestic operations pertain to UK while the company also
offers its products in other parts of the world. The entity deals in stipulation of luxury vehicles
that are designed with the sole purpose of ensuring convenience and comfort for users, so as to
attain high satisfaction from them. Bentley has always launched unique and stylish models of
vehicles which have features that hold the capability to disrupt the overall market. The
management of this corporation ensures that none of the staff members compromise with the
quality of vehicles and materials used within them. This is why the organisation is considered a
premium brand which has its own set of loyal customers who are not willing to shift to substitute
products at any instance.
Bentley Motors Ltd makes use of its hierarchical management structure to make sure that
the chain of command is clear to all. The organisation has an overall staff of more than 4000
individuals who are extensively dedicated to inflating the existing market positioning of Bentley
(THE BENTLEY STORY, 2014). The application of the selected management structure is thus

relevant for the company and tends to provide effective control and authority at each business
level. This empowers every employee working within Bentley and facilitates them to work for
the upliftment of respective automaker in the long run.
Roles of managers and leaders along with differences between management and leadership
Manager can be deciphered as an individual who responsible for organising and
administering the activities and processes of a business entity. Their role within the company is
to identify the skills and specialisation of every individual, thereby assigning them duties as per
their qualifications. In this regard, the manager within Bentley carries out measurement of
performance of staff members at constant intervals of time. This helps in identification of
outperforming and underperforming individuals. The deserving one are then given rewards to
motivate them to continue the same performance in the long run.
On the other hand, leader is regarded as an individual who possess the power and ability
to influence the behavioural conduct of staff members of a company. They align the performance
of employees with the predetermined organisational goal. The primary role of a leader within a
corporation is to encourage the staff in a manner such that they work by utilising their potential
for the benefit and growth of organisation. With reference to Bentley Motors, the leader takes
initiative to enrich the personality of individuals by acting as a role model for employees and
encouraging them to become the same.
Distinction between Leadership and Management
It is the collaborative efforts of management and leadership that lead a company towards
the accomplishment of goals and objectives within the due course of time. Although both the
concepts are key to the growth of company, it is important for a firm to gain knowledge of the
differences underlying between both of them.
