INTRODUCTIONManagement includes planning, organising, coordinating and controlling businessactivities. Operations means activities which assist in attaining goals and objectives. Inorganisation, there are different activities which assist in managing business operations. In ALDIsome departments such as marketing, production, sales, purchases etc. which helps to earn goodprofits and resist in society. Managers and leaders plays vital role in enhancing businessoperations (Barbosa, Sadre and Pras, 2012). As there is change in external environment, so it isresponsibility of managers to alter working style. In this report, the chosen organisation is ALDIthat deals in retail super market chain. This report highlights difference between roles of leaderand functions of manager, approaches of operations management, its importance in achievingtargets. At last it tells about impact of external environment on operations management anddecisions of managers and leaders. TASK 1P1 Define and compare different roles and characteristics of leader and managerIntroduction to the organisation and management structureALDI is the retail organisation works as discount supermarket chain. This is theorganisation which has around 10,000 stores in about 20 countries (Brown and Bessant, 2013).This organisation was established in 1946 which is headquartered in Germany and operates inItaly, China, Austria, Switzerland etc. Products offered by ALDI are food, beverages, sanitary,household articles etc.

There are different departments headed byvarious directors such as trading, finance, store operations, logistics etc. Advantages of thisstructure is that there is less possibilities of miscommunication and equal power is distributed toall employees. Main disadvantage of this structure is some personal conflict arise amongemployees which affects team performance. ManagerA manager is the individual who headed over some employees to control and manage thework. Subordinates report to managers. There are different activities performed by employees,then for its outcome they are responsible to managers (Crevier, Cordeau and Savard, 2012).
