INTRODUCTION
Management is a administrative process that is used by organization to run business
successfully. Operation is a process to create value from assets that are owned by company. This
assets could be tangible or intangible. Corus is a steel making company and it is a part of TATA
Steel and it was formed through merger of British Steel PLC and Koninklijke Hoogovens in year
1999 and later it was acquired by TATA in 2007.
Brief information of leader and manager is provided in report to understand their role in
organization for different conditions. Role of leader and manager will be analysed for different
condition and situation in organization which is based on different leadership and management
theory with their strengths and weaknesses Further, report will describe The role of leadership
and management in improving production development and also describe the importance and
value of operation management. Lastly, study presents the Impact of external environmental
factor on decision-making of leader and manager and then provide recommendations to improve
operation and management of organization.

Definitions of Leader and Manager
Leader
As per Murphy and Murphy, (2017) leadership is defined as the process of influencing
the activities of an organized group towards goal achievement. People in organization get
motivated and inspired by various activities of leader that force them to perform better in
company.
According to Winston, (2018) leadership is an art of motivating a group of people to act
towards achieving a common goal. In business organization action of leader are focused to meet
the needs and requirements of company.
Manager
As per the view of Block, (2016) manager is a person who is responsible for a part of a
company, various people and operation for particular department in organization. Manager is
responsible for all functions that are performed within the department.

Murphy and Murphy, (2017) stated that manager is a person who guides the pathway to
achieve the goals of organization to employees. The role of manager is to manage the operation
of every department by guiding and providing direction to employees.
Similarities and Differences Between Leasers and Managers
On the basic level, role of leader and manager is same but on vast level there are many
differences between them.
Similarities
On the base of qualities, manager and leader have some similarities which are important
for them to perform their role in organization. Similarities between leader and manager are
mainly based on their role in Corus Group.
Communication- it is basic requirement for leader and manager. It is one of most important
thing in a leader and a manager to maintain performance of Corus Group. Without better
communication skills, it is difficult for both to communication goals and visions of company. So,
leader and manager of Corus must have excellent communication to influence people positively
(Nzengya, D.M., 2015). For example in adverse conditions leader and manager with better
communication skill will be able to communicate effectively with people to improve their
motivation level.
Decision Making- It is another similarity between a leader and manager of Corus Group. On
daily basis both person have to deal with different issues and problems and with good decision
making skills they will be able to meet the demands of organization for success. If Corus Group
is implementing change in production process then good decision making skill of leader and
manager will help the organization to maintain productivity of company in target market.
Delegation and Empowerment- In Corus Group delegation activities are performed by both
leader and manager on different level. It is their duty to provide authority or allocate particular
task to person in organization. Leader delegate power in managers and manager allocate task and
power to team members. Better task allocation to employees help the organization to complete
goals with in deadline with high efficiency..
