INTRODUCTIONOperations management is a wide concept associated with assessment, review and controlof activities like manufacturing of goods and services within an organisation. It is a processwhich initiates from the control of raw materials and continues till they get converted intofinished goods (Boyd and Dougherty, 2016). Also, it is concerned with maintaining the qualityof products and managing to create a systematic balance between costs and revenues of entity.Leaders along with managers play an important role in operations management. The presentreport is based upon Japanese company Toyota which is a multinational vehicle manufacturingentity. This company is at sixth position in terms of revenue as per the reports of September2018. It is headquartered in Toyota city, Japan. This company follows a divisional organisationalstructure which is firmly centralised across the globe. This report includes the roles andcharacteristics of managers and leaders. Also, it explores various approaches of operationsmanagement along with the applicable theories and models. Besides this, leadership approachesand pestle analysis of organisation have been discussed.TASK 1P1. Roles and characteristics of leaders and managersToyota is a leading vehicle manufacturing firm which has global reputation and highstake in market owing to their excellent management structure. This entity follows hierarchicalmanagement structure where the line of power and authority flows from top to bottom. Thisreflects that subordinates are responsible and accountable only to their immediate superiors andtake orders only from them. Leaders and managers are inseparable components of an enterprise.By performing their roles and responsibilities well, they ensure growth and profitability ofbusiness concern.Leader: An individual responsible for motivating employees and aligning theirbehavioural characteristics towards the accomplishment of organisational goals and objectives iscalled a leader (Ellitan, 2017). Within Toyota, leaders make use of their confidence and positiveattitude to encourage personnel for performing to the best of their potential.
