INTRODUCTION Leadership and management can be defined as an ability of individual’s to motivate, influence and monitor others so that they can contribute towards organizational goals (Hewitt and et.al., 2021). This present study is based on Wilko, British high street retail chain that sells homewares and household goods. It was founded in the year of 1930 and has headquartered in the UK. This present study is going to discuss effectiveness of management principles and ways in which it can make leaders as well as managers able in accomplishing their goals and improving performance. It will further discuss good practices model along with skills and competencies that make people professional. It will discuss some skills and competencies that are required to become an effective leader and manager. Managers play a vital role in improving overall performance and development of strategic direction as well. MAIN BODY Contemporary principles of management that consider effective leadership and management models aligned to business practice Management principles play a vital role in improving overall performance of companies. Principles of management needs to be aligned with leadership and management models. Some principles of management that can make Wilko retailer able in accomplishing organizational goals include: Systematic problem solving:As per this principle, employees are encouraged to follow consistent method for solving problems, using data and statistical tools rather than assumptions. When employees make decision as per the specific problem solving principle then it makes them ableinincreasingproductivityanddecision-makingprocess(Vlasenko,Evdokimovand Rodionov, 2020). Learning from experience:It is other effective management principle according to which it is believed that by learning from experience, employees can protect themselves from errors. Experience plays a vital role as leaders can improve strategies and can lead in effective manner. Experimentation:Experiments are waystotest ideas in small steps. Experiments let companies test new knowledge. By using new ways, leaders and managers find easier in bringing innovation and creative ideas within business. It can make them able in taking competitive advantages and improving overall performance. 1
Learning from others:As per this management principle, leaders encourage employees for learning from others. For this purpose, they promote team working. It is believed that when employees work in a team then they increase their knowledge and learn different ways of performing functions. It improves their relations, and they are more likely to stay with business for the long run. Focus on change:It is leadership and management principle according to which employees are being encouraged toadapt changesandperforming functions accordingly. There are number of factors that can led changes within business and employees need to consider all those factors (Aryal and Nathan, 2019). By working as per this principle, managers and leaders can help out Wilko in accomplishing goals and improving performance. So, on the basis of above discussed principles of management, it can be said that Wilko can accomplish its goals and can make its employees productive. Explores the good practices models Good practices in leadership and management includes for just knowing about how to delegate work assignment. Supervisor and manager also demonstrate about the skills to make the use of people management skills which keep employee engaged with addition to functional expertise on how they rune with their departments. Mentor relationship-Wilko company culture includes the positive environment to grow and good manager and leader will go beyond and above for providing training, opportunities and support for their workers in showing about strong potential. By adopting the different styles which keep the best accommodation for the best employees is an excellent instance of good leadership practices (Martín-de Castro, 2021). In having such things this seems to be important about the professional practices which made strategies for developing with some goals and objective.
