2 MANAGEMENT 1. Group information a. Title of your project The group members that can be involved in trying to develop projects for Happy Campers Australia (HCA) include Paul, Gary and other employees like Steve, Martin and Andrew. The task of these five people is to ensure that new projects are developed for the company by keeping in mind the budget. A feasibility study is conducted that can help in understandingthe budgetthatisrequiredfor exploring thepossibilitiesof aproject. Unexplored alternatives are also identified with a budget of $10,000. The title of the project that can be adopted is to identify suitable strategy that can help in the development of the caravan industry as well as the organisation. 2. Background The Australian Caravan and Campervan industry can be considered as robust and consists of a hallmark of the Australian way of life. The industry represents freedom, flexibility, wanderlust as well as adventure for the people that are involved with the caravan industry (Caravanindustry.com.au 2019). One such organisation that helps in enriching the industry is the Happy Campers Australia (HCA). The aim of the company is to provide the bestbuiltandbestqualitycaravansfortheAustralianmarket.Thecompanyhas manufacturing companies in Brisbane and Sydney with a network of dealer agreements that help in the sale of the products. The advantage of the company is that it was established 7 years ago and has gained rapid growth among the people in Australia. As observed byKerzner and Kerzner (2017)despite having a strong brand and potential for new products, the company has faced various issues that pertain to operations, marketing as well as on the structure of the company. The focus of HCA has been to deliver
3 MANAGEMENT quality product by considering the dynamic market place and the high demand of small and midsize caravan. It has been seen that the types of recreational vehicles provided in the caravan industry has also changed with higher towing capacity and rise of fuel prices (Caravanindustry.com.au 2019). Thus, it is necessary to identify projects that can help in the development of the caravan industry as well as HCA. 3. Potential projects The aim of the assignment is to provide HCA with a project that can help it to improve its business prowess. It is necessary that potential projects be identified that can help the business to expand beyond the borders of Sydney and Brisbane. However, the budget of the company needs to be kept in mind with the main aim to maintaining the feasibility of the research. Some of the potential projects that can be applied by Peter and his team members within $10,000 for the company include: Constructing a suite of common marketing assets: Searset al. (2015) is of the pinion that this particular project has the potential for identifyingthemarketingassetsthatcanbebestsuitedformakingcontemporary communication. It can help in celebrating endorsement campaign that can bring out the best of the people within the organisation. 4 MANAGEMENT Develop a youth leadership strategy to attract and retain employees: This strategy can be future oriented as the company can look to develop future scope of leadership. The reigns can be handed over to the future generations so that HCA can ensure that latest and innovative techniques for the retention of the motivation of the employees be done. Examine ways by which rate of compliance can be improved: The expectations of the customers based on the services and products need to be addressed so that customer satisfaction can take place. As stated byYoung (2016)this is largely due to the impact of the development of technological factors in the market. It also takes into account the safety of the customers in case they indulge in renting a caravan for a day. 4. Chosen project and business case Based on the analysis of the possible projects that can be undertaken the best project suitable for the business of Happy Campers Australia is the development of a youth leadership strategy so that attraction and development of current and future industry leaders can be made. At the same time, the application of this particular project can help in the retention of the employees. Schwalbe (2015) stated that the shape of any industry is driven by the emergence of leaders and managers that can help in taking the project forward in the future. Therefore, for Happy Campers Australia to develop its prowess, it is necessary that the emerging generations appear to be innovative so that the camping industry can continue to improve. ForHCA,thenewwaveofleaderscanprovidethecompanywithdifferent applications so that threats and weaknesses of the company can be recognised. At the same
5 MANAGEMENT time,Fleming and Koppelman (2016) are of the opinion thata balance needs to be maintained between the experience and knowledge possessed by the employees so that a link can be established between the current traditional decision makers and the custodians of the organisation. For Happy Campers Australia, the ideals possessed by the future people can help in the development of the organisation by introducing an element of expectation regarding the quality. As seen from the analysis of the case study, Happy Campers Australia always had the aim to improve the quality of the products so that customer satisfaction can be attained. Therefore, it is important that the company understand the capacity it contains while trying to move forward towards the development of a sustainable industry. Another advantage that can be gained from the project is that the leaders can mirror the current thinking process that consists of an element of expectation related to the quality and compliance provided by the company (Heagney 2016). 5. Strategic alignment of the project The strategic alignment of the project can be the activities that are undertaken in order to develop its prospect in the industry. The scope of the project undertaken is that it can help Happy Campers Australia to build and nurture external partnerships to strengthen the lobbying and advocacy rights. As stated byHarrison and Lock (2017)the strategic alignment can be done in order to create opportunities so that engagement can be made between the management as well as the requirements of the customers. Oneofthestrategicalignmentsthatcanbemadeisthefactthatwiththe implementation of the project a regular forum can be formed that can help in exchanging ideas and development of solutions regarding the industry issues. As observed byBinder (2016)this can provide exposure to the youths and the talents can be measured based on this
6 MANAGEMENT process. Along with this, an annual leadership course can be provided to the youths so that strategies and capabilities of the people can be taken into account. As pointed out byLock (2017)a webinar series can be developed in order to provide professional development opportunities. It is necessary that the webinar be undertaken based on the necessities of the leaders so that an arrangement can be made in order to understand the mentoring programme required for the future. In this, regard, Happy Campers Australia can formulate a target that need to be achieved within a short-term period. The target of the company can be to ensure that 200 future leaders can attend the session so that proper training can be provided for their development. This need to be achieved within June 2019 so that the efficiency of the leaders can be maintained. However, despite the possible success of the project risks remain that may hamper the development of the project. 6. Risks, assumptions and constraints The risks that are involved in the development of the project are that youth may not be interested in investing time for supporting the caravan industry. This is mainly because unlike other industries such as retail or corporate sectors, the caravan industry does not provide a high pay scale to the employees. In this regard, it can be said that for Happy Campers Australia to develop the youth of the company, salary hike need to be provided to the people. Assumption need to be made about the capability possessed so that relevant training can be provided to the people. However, the constraints that are related to the project are that drastic changes are required within the organisation, which may not account strongly for the employees. Resistance to change is one of the important aspects that are faced by Happy Campers Australia. Hence, it is needed to bog down the operations in the organisation.
