Management and operation is important for attaining business objective of firm in set time
frame. It has been determine that operation administration assist in managing several process of
firm in effective manner. For the effective completion of this written document, Tesco is the
company which is considered. This venture was incorporated in 1919 by Jack Cohen and located
in UK. It specialises in grocery and general merchandise and offers its products and services
globally across the world. The main purpose of the report is to explain about role and functions
of leaders and managers and different leadership and management conceptions (Saucedo-
Martínez and et. al., 2018). Further, it will consider information about role of leader and manager
in different situation, theories of situational, system and contingency leadership as well as key
approaches to operation management and importance and value of operations management. This
document will also describe about business atmosphere components that influence operational
administration and determination devising through leaders and administrators.

Definition of leader and manager
The leader is defined as an individual whose main motive is inspiring its workforce of
enterprise. In reference to Tesco, the leader is highlighted on motivating staff in effective
manner. And also it helps in completion of aim and objectives in granted duration. The leader is
accountable for assigning task to its workers and also concentrates n executing it through
workers in targeted time (Ferguson and et. al., 2019). It improves the profits and efficiency level
of firm. Whereas, the manager is the person who emphasised on making adequate plan, conduct
a framework, staffing and provide guidance and determining or controlling the functions of
business in effective form. It maximise the experience level of a person and also the execution of
workers in future.
Function of a manager
Planning- It is the main function of manager and in Tesco with the assistance of this
function, the administrator of firm devise plan to meet the enterprise aims and objectives. The
manager frame plan so that employees perform their work as per them and attaining their
objectives.

Organising- It is another effective function of manager and with the help of it administrator
of Tesco organise planning process and analyse that which worker or team are best suited for
specific task and perform their work in better form.
Controlling- To make all the above functions, within it, manager make control on business

any required modifications when they are not (Reid and Sanders, 2019).
Directing- Within it, manager lead and direct worker and team regarding their task so that
they are well aware about their work and attain set goals in improved form.
