INTRODUCTION
Present research will be base on topic strategic initiatives which has been taken for
Equality and diversity in the workplace. Research will be taking Pret a Mange which is an
international sandwich shop chain based in UK. It has 450 shops around in 9 countries. The main
purpose of this research is to identify the strategies and initiatives taken by the companies to
build a diverse work place environment. Present also will focus on the
Gender inequality and make the things improper for the business task. Diversity and inequality is
the integral part within the organization which might also affect the company internal reputation
in front of the employees as well.
Company Overview
Pret A Mange is an international sandwich chain across the 9 countries. Founder of Pret
A Mange has based in Hampstead, London in 1984. the concept of this business is very diverse
and unique as the chain of Pret A Mange is based on handmade products like natural food.
Pret A Mange using organic ingredients and promote its sandwiches are made on the day of
purchases in a kitchen at each location.
Aims : “To examine the strategies and initiatives that company implement at workplace for

 To identify the strategies of Gender Equality and diversity in the workplace.
 To examine the impact of Gender Equality and diversity in the workplace on employee

 To determine the challenges and issues management faced while implementing Equality
and diversity initiatives in the workplace.
 To examine the Inclusive and diverse business learning within the workplace.
Scope : Scope is the term which relate with the importance. Like the scope of the present
research is to examine the importance of Equality and diversity in the workplace environment
within the organization and how it impact on the employee performance. This study can help to

influence business environment and make employees more productive in working with different
thoughts (Cloutier and et.al., 2015). Also it plays a important role because in modern workplace
environment for a new change a creative thought is very necessary which comes from diverse
learning. Scope also define a SMART objective which clears the aim of the study. Without a
specific scope study has not been completed.
Resources : Resources is the another significant component of the study which helps in
the process of study. Like Research requirements like Human resource, Training &
Development, Technical resources, Equipment etc. resources support the whole study and assist
to accomplish the aim of the study.
Communication : Project Management plan is not been completed without a proper
communication channels (Cook and Glass, 2016). Poor communication can makes the research
worse and often the lack of communication is the only reason an issue arises. Communication
channel is required to communicate with the project stakeholders. Effective communication
solves the issues that arises that concerns their interest in the project. Avoiding it will only create
an environment whereby issues will arise much quicker in the future. Such kinds of opportunity
will easily helps to define the best development areas. Communication is also very necessary to
create new thoughts and ideas.
Risk : Risk effective management and makes the study more effective learning objectives
and also makes the things more clearly defined and emerging business objectives. Risk can be
happened anytime and anyways which is not predictable and efficient.
Cost/Budget : Financial resource is the crucial aspect of the research. Without
investment the project is not been started (Davis, Frolova and Callahan, 2016). Nature of a
project requires that a well defined budget actively managed all things in systematic process.
Like present research consists cost of human resource, purchase equipment, monitoring and
controlling. For all such activities investment is must required. Present project will be
approximately taking 450 pound
Quality : Quality is the term which defines how and when the things happened. Such
process maintained the systematic procedure and quality of work (Guillaume and et.al., 2017).
Like before starting anything project manager conduct planning of all the other processes.
Quality maintains when the project deliverable the exact amount of inputs. Project should have
maintained the some standards quality measures to conduct the study. Like to gathered

information for the study aims so the information or data must be according and effective as per
the objective. This business case helps to determine the business case which makes the things
more grateful.
Time : Every project has specific starting and ending date. Project time defined the
ending and beginning process which often external stakeholders which involve in the
determination of the deadlines dates (Huffman, King and Reichelt, 2017). Like preset research
will be finish of in between 11 to 12 months.

Work breakdown structure is the process or tool that helps in making the project
management or research tools effectively managed (Klarsfeld and et.al., 2016). WBS tool helps
to divided the task and activities into smaller parts to effectively done into more effective
manner. Apart from this, present break down structure clearly divided the research process task
to effectively manage the and accomplish the project aims in systematic manner.

As per the view of Ben-Amar, Chang and McIlkenny, (2017) equality can be defined as
way of conducting operations where each person get equal chance without having any kind of
discrimination at workplace. Recruiting of managing diverse workforce supports the
organization in managing skills well and getting new ideas for the development of business unit.
According to Benschop and et.al., (2015) promoting each person equally help the
organization in managing skills well and encouraging people to do better for the betterment of
business unit. Making effective workplace policies is another great strategy through which

equality and diversity can be promoted. This is the best strategy that may aid business in gaining
success and ensuring that all people work with high motivation because if someone discriminate
someone then company can give punishment for the mistake.
The main purpose of the study is to evaluate the equality and diversity on the basis of
gender equality which is the wrongful practice within the organization and for that it is the
mandatory for the organization to adopt some major policies accordingly. Study focuses on the
equality issues which has been company discriminate the people on the basis of their gender.
Gender inequality is the big offense within the organization which also might impact the
performance of the organization and also differentiate the leading business task. There are
different advantage of work place diversity to the performance of company in the market place
and inside operations. For example, in particular problem that company is facing. They need
various kind f solutions that can provide then capability to come over it. In this case diverse work
force can provide them better solution that solve the business problem efficiently. Divercity
provide capability to get ideas of vast range.
Equality and diversity in the workplace is the most common concern within the
organization. It defines the promoting equality of opportunities for all without any discrimination
process. Also it is required for the organization to sustained and followed the Equality act 2010.
Indirectly it relates with employee diversity. In other words, Diversity is important strategies for
the workplace environment which is also a difficult task for the management too (Ben-Amar,
Chang and McIlkenny, 2017). To build an inclusive workplace environment, Companies
develops distinct diversity programs which perceived to be the right thing to do without
reflecting a true commitment to creating a work environment that fosters the best workplace.
The intent of the study is to identify the strategies companies adopted for their diverse workplace
environment. So overall, the main purpose of the study is to determine the strategies or practices
that company implies into the business to eliminate discrimination within the environment of
business (Benschop and et.al., 2015). Equality on work place is all about provide better and
equal treatment to the people who are working in organization. This equal treatment can help
organization to provide better comfort level to the employees to meet satisfaction requirements.
There are different processes can be implemented by organization to provide equal opportunities
to employees. By improving organization policies this can be done efficiently.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGIES
Research Approach : Research approach is divided into two types Deductive and
Inductive research approach. Deductive approach is based on tests and validity of assumptions in
hand whereas inductive approach contributes to the emergence of new theories and
generalization (Köllen, 2016). The scope of inductive approach is much high than deductive
because it based on different theories and observations that can achievable in different manner.
So In order to conduct this study, researcher has been taken Inductive research approach to
examine the strategies of inclusion and diverse workforce environment. However, research
approach makes the high effective definition goals. This methodology analyze the best formation
that effectively implemented the good goals and fulfill the aim of the study.
Research Type: The quantitative research is designed is known as the systematic
investigation of concept by gathering data by performing statistical, computing and mathematical
technique. The qualitative research is considered as process where scientific methods of
observation to gather non numerical data. This research is based on quantitate data because this
will provide better information about the critical information of company related to equality and
discrimination. Use of statistical data helped the researcher in gaining insight detail related to
subject matter and carrying out this investigation in systematic manner.
Research Philosophy : Research philosophy is a vast topic which analyze the research
topic in detailed manner. In business and economics it is expected to discuss research philosophy
in a great level of depth. Research Philosophy deals with the source, nature and developed of
knowledge. In terms of a research philosophy is belief about the ways in which data phenomenon
be collected analyzed and used (Konrad, Yang and Maurer, 2016). There are two types of
research Positivism and Interpretivism. Positivism research is base on facts and knowledge
which has been collected through measurement and trustworthy. Besides, Interpretivism
involves elements of the study this approach is integrates human interest into a study. Present
research will be base on Interpretivism approach in order to examine the study.
Research Design : Research design is the structure and layout of the research which
conducted through either exploratory or conclusive. Exploratory research design conduct
research according to their aim and objective and explore the specific areas and particular
aspects. Conclusive research design aims is to generate findings which is useful for the study

aims and objectives. In order to conduct this study research has been taken Exploratory research
design to get insight knowledge of equality and diversity in within business environment.
Data Collection : Data collection is a process of collecting information from all the
relevant sources to find answers to the research problem. Test the hypotheses and evaluate the
outcomes, besides, data collection is of different types primary research and secondary research
techniques (Phillips and et.al., 2016). Primary research data collected from survey questionnaire,
interview, observation. Besides, secondary data has collected through Newspaper, Articles,
Books & Journals. For conducting a present research, researcher has been conducting primary as
well as secondary research. Primary data has been collecting through conducting questionnaire
survey from 20 respondents. Data collection is the most important method of the research which
effectively managed and sustainable the research which explore the research findings. Also it
makes the system of research effectively managed. Data collection collects the required
information or data related to research aims and objectives (Ravazzani, 2016). Apart from this, it
effectively managed and maintained the systematic process of research in high efficient manner.
Besides, present study collected secondary as well as primary data by supporting information and
survey conducted by 20 respondents respectively. However, the business successfully manage
the work in effective manner.
Data Analysis : Once the data collected next process would be data analysis. After
collecting all information researcher analysis the findings and outputs. Further this process is
been conducted through two different techniques qualitative analysis technique or quantitative.
Qualitative research conducted through thematic form in which non of the mathematical term
been involved. In contrary, Quantitative research technique using mean, median, mode statistical
methods to analyses the data. So to conduct this study, researcher is being using Qualitative
technique. In the current research scholar has used quantitative method to analyses data, use of
mean, mode, standard deviation help in generating actual results and knowing more about
equality and diversity.
Sampling : Sampling is the systematic form form of study which undertakes the
activities and better understand the study into detailed manner (Riccucci and Van Ryzin, 2017).
Sampling is the technique which explained a specific purpose it has been rightly noted that
because many populations of interest are too large to work with directly, techniques of statistical
sampling which obtain samples taken from larger populations. There are two types of sampling

method probability and non probability sampling. Probability sampling population which
determining the best sampling method which effectively most effective. Non probability
sampling is the another method of sampling where the researcher selects the selected number of
respondents (Sabharwal, Levine and D’Agostino, 2018). In order to conduct this study researcher
has been taken simple random sampling with 12 managers of the Pret of Manger to examine the
survey on Equality and Diversity environment within the workplace.
Ethical Consideration : Ethical consideration is the ethical formation growth which
makes the thing presentable and make the system more influencing and promoting business
targets. Ethical consideration can be specified as one of the most important parts of the research.
Ethical consideration is the regulatory framework which need to be followed by the researcher to
take effective outcomes and findings of the research (Walton, Murphy and Ryan, 2015).
DATA COLLECTION
For the data collection questionnaire is used over the interview because it is easy for
people to full fill questionnaire and this can save time for both researcher and respondents.
Taking interview is a time consuming process but questionnaire provide time related and place
related flexibility and can be filled any time.

Interpretation : from the above survey or table it has been identified that how much employees
sustained with the company as long period of time. Out of 12 managers 2 managers are
successfully survived in the company for 2 years. 10 managers is the good ratio which define
that company have good environment in terms of employee development. 5 managers who spend
their life with 1 years in Pret a Manger which shows how much company have good ratio of
retention power. Rest of the 5 managers would have been suggested that it manage the following
business targets. It has been found from this survey that, managers are happy with the
organization workplace area and they also want to spend more time with Pret a Manger.

gender based which makes the study more complicated and inefficient. In within the organization
jokes related to any person religion, race is different from other specific goals which is also not

Interpretation : The equality and the diversity is beneficial in many ways and it also
ensures that there are several ideas regarding the ideas, backgrounds and the skills to improvise
the organization and gives the long vision to the company. According to the survey, the about
70% of the managers have solved the case related to the equality and the diversity at the
workplace and some of the approaches for the diversity inclusion at the workplace includes the
management skill development, enhance the recruitment actions and maximum female
employees should be there at the workplace and the promotional activities for the employees to
understand the importance of the equality and the diversity inclusion. The recruitment of the
skilled diversity officer should be appointed to train the employees about the values and the
importance of the equality and the diversity to balance the work-life and also the development of
the seminar regarding the inclusion of diversity and the involvement of diversity at the upper
level to achieve the personal goals and the chance to retain the diversity the company should pay
attention to foster the diversity at the all the levels. There are different ways are possible for Pret
A Mange is consists of good diversity condition. For example they can open their recruitment
criteria for international candidate. This will help them to improvise the diversity condition in
organization. For maintaining equality organization can make effective change in their policy to
develop positive response form the employees.
DISCUSSION
Equal opportunity is the right of every employee who work for an organization purpose.
it is the responsibility of the employer to take care of its employees and ensure that
discrimination practices never happened at the workplace. The main purpose of the study is to
improve the business employee performance by implementing the equality and diversity business
environment. Besides, it also helps to examine the business workplace environment and
understand the employee needs and wants. (Barak, Findler and Wind, 2016). On the same side,
to maintained that pace company recruited a diverse workforce employees within the
organization. For that, study outline the aims and objectives and project management plan
according to which study will be conducting the small-scale research along with defining the
explaining the research methodology approaches. Therefore in order to to conduct primary
research study researcher will further conduct a survey and concluding the findings of the
research.

CONCLUSION
It has been found from the above research that equality and diversity is now become a
very sensitive topic within the workplace environment. Above study concluded the importance
of equality and diversity within the employees working environment which effectively managed
the aims and objectives the study which effectively managed (Sarvaiya, Eweje and Arrowsmith,
2018). Research also communicate the study outcomes and effectively identified the opportunity
and task by conducting a survey of 20 managers. In order to recommend the research findings.
Company could adopt some practices given below to improvise the workplace environment. The
whole report conclude about the project management of equality and the diversity and the
various management plans that cover the cost, time, quality, communication and the work
breakdown structure and the Gantt chart that summarized about the time frame and the various
stages of the completion and the various qualitative and quantitative approaches to meet the aims
and the objectives of the projects and also the accuracy of the different research methods about
the equality and the diversity and the reflection on the values of quality and the diversity to meet
the certain objectives and the evaluation and the changes made in developing the plans for the
project management to support the equality and diversity. The equality and the diversity at the
workplace is very important that helps in achieving more diverse and productive work
environment. Workplace diversity also enhance the morale of the employees and increases the
desire to work more effectively and efficiently. Overall, study concluded the overcome and
forming the best supportive services. The study analysed the importance of diversity and equality
within the workplace environment which gives the effective results on the study outputs.
Recommendation
Diversity can benefit the employer in many ways in the context of business environment
as well. Diversity can helps to ensure that there will be a spectrum of ideas, background and skill
sets that can help the organizations to have more innovative ideas and less likelihood of tunnel
vision comes (Sharma, 2016). In order to communicate diverse policies regularly and clearly
managed in systematic manner. Also company can create practices or activity within the
company to take familiar people from each other. Organization can also conduct meeting for
employees. So that it can help to get their issues and make the services comfortable. Apart from
this, company can also give employees training on Inclusive learning that makes them more
energetic and influencing within the services and growth. Study has been successfully achieved

inequality is the major concern of the company which has to be removed from the workplace

REFLECTIVE
Throughout the learning from this research, I have learned that the Pret a Manger is a self
made company which influenced me a lot and the staff and the senior members of the company
are so innovative and energetic and that is the reason of the success of the company. I have
discussed from the staffs and the senior members about the management and I found it a very
interesting place to work and and the center of attraction for the customers (Tang and et.al.,
2015). I have done the two types of research to collect the actionable information : primary and
secondary.
Primary Research
After interviewing the managers of Pret a Manger I have discussed about the experience
and the steps taken to increase the productivity and the strategies implemented at the workplace
for equality and the diversity and I got a very impressive answers and from that I have learned
that the proper planning before, during and after the implementation is very important and that
influence on the future growth of ourself. The owner of Pret a Manger believe that the Top down
approach is not enough and they believe in the open interaction with the employees to know their
views and ideas that can be helpful for the growth of the company. The equality in the company

can easily be seen and that makes the company different and I asked about the different
diversification methods of Pret a Manger. I asked more question regarding the threats, internal
strengths and the steps taken to maximize the productivity and on what factors the company
focuses regarding the quality and the results were very great and I have learned that it is very
important to know firstly the internal strengths and the weakness of the ourselves and this
research helps me a lot in improvising myself regarding decision making, planning and the
implementation of the plan to get the long term success.
Secondary Research
After interviewing and analyzing the complete strategies and the internal planning of Pret
a Manger, I searched more about the company on the internet and I found the website and I
found the website very innovative and interesting. There are several outlets of the Pret a Manger
across the world and the organisation is having more than 1500 employees are currently working
and I have found the several issues and the failures of the company that was life threatening.
From the collected data, I have learned that there are always some factors that ruins the company
name and degrades the quality of the company. I have also learned that the open interaction is
always helpful to share the views and thoughts. I have also diversified myself in every aspects
that improves my integrity and the ability to judge the things is also improvised. Through all
these research about the Pret a Manger, I have found it a very great company, some points that I
found negative about the company but every positive thing always have a negative side but the
honesty and the way the team of this company deals with the problems makes this a very
interesting place and I have learned and improves myself a lot regarding the integrity and the
way to handle the problems with ease and the patience. From the above research I have learned
different things that are important for the performance of organization in the market place.
Diversity and equality are both good for business organization. I have learned that diversity can
help the organization to get different innovative and creative ideas that can help to improve their
business.
