5Managing a Successful Business Project20191. Globalization definition and Historical Process in Global contextIn simple word globalization involves doing international trade freely. This means integration of thenational economy with the world economy. Globalization implies a free flow of information, ideas, technology, goods and services, capital and even people across different countries and societies. So,globalization is a means to connect different markets in the form of trade, investments and culturalexchange in between different countries. So, globalization is a cultural phenomenon. It’s reflected in contemporary network and populationmigrating and linguistic changes. The world today, as symbolized by our international felt mélange, experiences widespread global economic interdependence and the accompanying cultural borrowingare nothing new. You will know that we found documents from the Indus Valley Civilization allthe way in Mesopotamia. Few reasons, the scale of this trade has increased dramatically:Multinational Corporations have global reach and increasing power.Travel and shipping are cheap and safe. (At past it took about two months to cross theAtlantic in 1800. Today it takes about five hours by plane and less than a week by ship.)Governments have decreased tariffs and regulations on international trade, leading to what issometimes called euphemistically “free trade”. To which I say, if this so free trade. Due tofree trade, we are also getting to use all kind of thing. To understand the role that governments play in international trade. For example most t-shirts madein the world, contains 100% American cotton. That is why, because the U.S. makes the best cotton orthe most efficient cotton and it is also because the U.S. government subsidizes cotton production. And that’s what makes this cotton cheaper than cotton of similar quality from Brazil or India. But inthe last 30 years, the U.S.’s share of cotton exports has gone down as Brazil, India, and Africa’scotton exports go up. And that trend will likely continue as the U.S. moves away from its expensivecotton subsidies. In fact, these days it’s already possible to find t-shirts with Brazilian, Indian orUgandan cotton, or a mixture of cottons from all around the world. S0, because the Americangovernment doesn’t subsidize industry in the way it does agricultural production, the actual spinningand weaving of the cotton takes place in lower wage countries: Mexico, Vietnam, China, India etc.And finalized shirts, called blanks, are usually sent to Europe or the U.S. for screen printing, andthen sold. The expensive part of this process is the part where they ship this across the Pacific Ocean, turn it into this, and then ship it back across the Pacific Ocean, turn it into ships and then ship it backacross the Pacific Ocean. But this is wrong. Wholesale t-shirt blanks can cost as little as 3 dollars: theexpensive is in the printing, the retail side of things, and paying the designer etc.Bibek Purja Pun ((HND/ Second Semester Sec-A)

Managing a Successful Business Project2019Globalization is not a new concept. Although our understanding of it has certainly changed over theyears. Globalization refers to an integration and coming together of different parts of the world. Aglobalized world is a connected world. Phrases like global village, networked society, post-industrialsociety, age of the information revolution are often used to make sense of the world underGlobalization. The revolution of globalization can be grasped better by making a distinction betweenthe phenomenon and the discourse. This involves raising two different questions. 1. Which concreteset of developments does Globalization refer to? 2. How old is it?In other words, what is the history, or rather pre-history of the phenomenon? Called globalization. Itwould be safe to say that the term began to use in the sense resembling its current usage since the1930s. However, its usage has gained currency during the closing decades of the 20th and the earlydecades of the 21st century. In general, globalization means a world that is integrated and interconnected in complex andcontradictory ways: a world of new networks and institutions which have caster shadow on the flowof goods, services, ideas, technologies, cultural forms, and peoples lives in general, cutting acrossnational boundaries. The new technological breakthroughs have created satellite communicationsystem, the internet, and global networks. These have created new connectivity and have affectedvirtually every facet of human life. When exactly did such a world start emerging and taking shape?Well it may be necessary to comment on the temporal dimension of Globalization by making adistinction between the actual occurrence of the phenomenon and its history or pre-history. It wouldbe fairly uncondensed to say that the modern industrial; economy, or in other words capitalism, reached a definite, qualitatively different stage, during the post-world war period and startedthrowing up powerful systems both cultural and political that can be grouped together under therubric of Globalization. Since the stages of industrialism cannot be separated so nearly, it would bepossible to see the cluster of institution associated with Globalization, in the early period also. “Thequestion does arises”. How far back can one take the history of Globalization? The story of theintegration of the world can be seen as consisting of three different stages. Well the first majorintegration of the world occurred during the end of the 16th century when the discovery of Americaby Columbus and the discovery of a new sea route to the east by Vasco da Gama at the southern tipof Africa, connected different parts of the world together. This two discoveries initiated anunprecedented process of global trade that connected continents of America, Europe, Asia, Africaand Austria. The global trade was also a companion by the great migration of people across thecontinents. 13 millions slaves from Africa were forcibly brought and settled in America. Thisdevelopment altered the ethnic profile of the world. The extent of integration that happened duringBibek Purja Pun (HND/ Second Semester Sec-A)Page 6

7Managing a Successful Business Project2019this phase can be understood by the example of sugar. Around the 17th and 18th centuries sugarstarted being manufactured in the Americans at the initiative of the Europeans with the help of slavelabor acquired from the African cost and added to coffee obtained from western areas and fromeastern Asia to be ultimately consumed by the aristocracy in a row. The accident of integration andconnectivity achieved during the 16 to 18 centuries was truly unprecedented and it was drivenprimarily by trade. The second stage of integration began towards the end of 18th century.[ CITATION Pet19 \l 1033 ]2. Globalization in NepalNepal formally adopted the policy of liberalization, privatization and globalization after therebuilding of multiparty vote based system in the mid-1990s as the trailblazer of globalization in theSouth Asian area. The increase of Nepal to the WTO in 2004 quickened the procedure ofglobalization. Be that as it may, in the previous two decades or something like that, Nepal has faceda couple of examples of overcoming adversity just as instances of disappointment and lost desires, which plainly feature the need to evaluate the entire procedure of globalization. Nepal has increased some advantages and openings from globalization, however in little zones andplace. As monetary reports expose, the per capita GNI expanded from $185 in 1990 to $721 in 2015and the size of the GDP has extended complex from that point forward. Besides, the degree of totalpenury has diminished from 49 percent to 23.8 percent during that period. In spite of the fact thatnumerous elements might be dependable behind the authentic change of Nepali economy, it issensible to break down this phenomenon versus globalization. To begin with, globalization has enormously added to the modernization of the Nepali economy.Nepal has been changed into an open and administration based economy by bringing down theportion of farming in the GDP to 33%. Second, Nepal has extended its market to the worldwidelevel. Therefore, the nation's absolute fares have been expanding, however step by step, and theexchange with the outside world has been broadened somewhat. Third, Nepal has seen expanded inflow of FDI. Various worldwide organizations, for example,Standard Chartered, Ncell and UniLever are working in the nation. The FDI in the field of ICT, thetravel industry, instruction and budgetary segments is critical, which has encouraged the exchange ofpresent day innovation and improved the equalization of installments of the nation. Fourth, the buyers have profited by method for expanded quality at less expensive cost because ofworldwide challenge. A wide scope of worldwide brands, for example, iPhone, Samsung, KFC,JohnPlayers, Facebook, Youtube include come inside simple reach of Nepali clients. Fifth, globalization has given access to worldwide money related organizations, for example, the WorldBibek Purja Pun ((HND/ Second Semester Sec-A)

Sixth, globalization opened up the universal labour market to Nepali laborers. The portion ofsettlement has come to almost 30% of GDP which has diminished joblessness and neediness, as itwere, just as salvage the economy in the hardest of times. At last, globalization has advanced socio-social change of the nation through social trade, the travel industry exercises and extension oflearning. Furthermore, it has raised worries over natural issues of the day, for example, environmental change, an unnatural weather change, and contaminations of different structures.3. Case of failuresNepal walked on the way of globalization with much enthusiasm and desires at the start. Throughoutthe decades, be that as it may, the nation has increased close to nothing, and the desires have horriblytransformed into disillusionments for the most part because of its own chances. To begin with, the supplementary difference in the economy in the consequence of globalization hascaused imbalanced improvement, energizing extending pay disparity and placing confidence intoinquiry. Second, the liberal trade policy has finished the period of exchange concessions, settlingnumerous SMEs. In addition, the long standing travel issue and the ongoing obstruct by India haveunmistakably damaged the crucial guideline of globalization, which calls with the expectation ofcomplimentary development of products and ventures. Third, globalization has disturbed the privatization drive in the nation, making substantialmisfortunes the national coffer. This has brought about strength of the MNCs and capital flight.Heedless privatization has intensified off social welfare because of mishaps in open merchandiseconveyance. Fourth, globalization has expanded the import of buyer things, raising feelings oftrepidation of dumping of low quality products in the nation. In addition, it has pushed up theexchange shortage every year at such a disturbing rate, that the all out fares of the nation can'tpurchase even a solitary thing - oil based commodities. Fifth, as globalization took movement, Nepal gradually dove into help reliance. This has putunreasonable weight of the benefactors on improvement endeavors, and the self-governance of theeconomy is in risk. 6th, rising remote work has set off a mind channel of the dynamic work power ofthe nation, which has offered ascend to the settlement economy. Be that as it may, questions are stillthere over the maintainability of the present inflow of settlements. At long last, globalization has actuated Westernization, disintegrating the neighborhood approvals, culture and character. Moreover, development of composed violations, for example, human dealing,Bibek Purja Pun (HND/ Second Semester Sec-A)Page 8
