INTRODUCTION
This study is based on managing innovation in business. Innovation management in
business refers to process of managing activities relating to development of new product in order
to increase its demand in the market to increase profitability of firm(Dyson, 2016) . This study
will include Dyson for performing different task of this project. Dyson is a private limited
company involved in technology industry. It provides various products such relating to home
appliances such as vacuum cleaner, hand dryers, desk fans etc. It has number of employees more
that 8000 and generated revenue of £2.5 billion in 2016.
PURPOSE OF REPORT AND INDUSTRY STRUCTURE
This study will include approach to a range of business data , sources of information to
identify different drivers of innovation and its environment. It will also include importance of
organisational knowledge , knowledge transfer to analyse innovation capability and blockages.
Moreover, it will include innovation development audit for development of new product or
services. Technology industry is growing days by day because of its various advantages to
public. Technology helps in improving communication and also assist in increasing brand image.

The organisation and its innovation history
Dyson company is involved in technology industry and producing various produces
relating to home appliances. It is involved in designing and manufacturing of products such as
vacuum cleaner , hand dryers, blade less fans etc. This organisation is well known for its
innovative products which has increased their market share(Antikainen and Valkokari, 2016).
This organisation is famous for manufacturing of vacuum cleaners(Innovation Management –
Definition, Processes, Frameworks and More, 2018) . Dyson is involved in making
innovative products which is increasing its profitability, Innovation is related to coming up with
new ideas and thoughts in order to develop a unique product which is not available in the
market. Innovation consist of product innovation, product innovation, organisational innovation,
management innovation etc. Dyson is a private company which was founded by James Dyson in
1991. Dyson generated revenue of £2.5 billion in 2016.
Dyson designed and manufactured various innovative products such as cyclone vacuum,
robotic vacuum cleaners etc(Dyson's Latest Products Will Revolutionize How You Clean Your

Home And Purify Your Air, 2017). Dyson reinvented Wheelbarrow as ball barrow to improve
stability and mobility. In 1978, Dyson found that air filter in Ball barrow was constantly
clogging with dust and powder so company designed industrial cyclone tower to remove
particles by centrifugal force. Established companies refused to buy its license of cyclonic
technology. Dyson was provided with license to manufacture vacuum by a Japanese company
after seeing the picture of vacuum cleaner in a magazine (Biemans, 2018).
Dyson created a various products by using prototyping and cyclonic technology to
produce a high quality and disruptive products. Dyson took 5,127 prototypes for creating a
vacuum which was successful and work perfectly. Prototyping is a model or system is used for
testing and experimenting for making a final product. Engineers of Dyson design the product by
implementing model of card and foam. These are the sheets used by Dyson for designing the
model of its products. Then they introduce prototypes relating to product.
Dyson in order to build great product build prototyping, which is a phase where solution
to one problem raise question for another problem to make the best product with failures.
Engineers of maths and statistics are used for quality control. Mathematics formula help Dyson
to incorporate intolerances and statistics assist in testing the quality of product to identify defects
before producing final product in market.
Dyson in 2016, developed a supersonic hair dryer(The Dyson supersonic hair dryer,
2016). This hair dryer cost £50 million on research and over 1100 miles of human hair were used
for testing 600 prototypes. Dyson created robotic vacuum cleaner which was known as 360 eye
vacuums (Wu, Lii and Wang, 2015). The robot uses fish eye camera lens that allow it in
analysing 30 frames per second of data and move its position in room.
Dyson achieved a great success by using different innovation and techniques in their
product to make it creative. It is involved in continuous innovation and development. Dyson
before manufacturing a product make proper research about the market and product in order to
create an innovative product. Dyson make use of SWOT analysis in order to identify strength
and weakness and opportunities and threat which have their influence on its profitability.
Strength of the Dyson is that it have highly qualified workers and also they have strong research
team which is engaged in creation of new ideas. Weakness of Dyson is that it have high prices of
its products than its competitors and also failure of various experiments. Dyson has an

opportunity of expansion of its business globally. Threat for Dyson include cheaper vacuum
cleaner available with competitors etc.
The organisation existing innovation performance and capabilities
Innovation performance and capabilities of organisation assist them in gaining
competitive advantage which helps in increasing their performance level and productivity. Dyson
is producing its product by making research in order to develop as high quality product to
increase their customer base brand image of the organisation to increase its profitability.
Dyson produces Air multiplier fan which is a blade less fan which provide smooth flow
of air. This fan generate airflow up to 55mph. This fan contains a brushless electric motor. The
upper frame of this fan is ring shaped(Dyson Air Multiplier Fans and Heaters, 2015)
Dyson is involved in innovative products that consist of cyclone V10 which is the
powerful product that contain fastest and most advanced digital motor. This product is gaining
popularity in the market by its powerful suction power that assist in deep cleaning. Dyson new
pure cool purifying fan is helpful in removing air pollutants for example cooking fumes. Dyson
by improving its product quality and improving innovation techniques gaining high performance
in the market (Dyson, 2016).
Dyson in order to make the product innovative makes proper research of its competitors
products and their marketing strategies (Trevino and Nelson, 2016). Dyson in order to attract
customer uses marketing strategies to gain customer trust and loyalty. Dyson is involved in

making those products which will assist humans in completing their work easily. Organisation in
order to improve its performance make strategies and planning to work according to the plan to
achieve the objective.
James Dyson the owner of Dyson company is known for its innovative products and it
first invented Dyson vaccum cleaner which is the most popular among the other products
produced by this organisation. Employees and Engineer of Dyson are highly qualified and design
the product by implementing their skills and knowledge.
Dyson is a popular company in the technology industry producing products which are

). Dyson is involved in producing other products such as heat less hair dryers, Big ball, cine tic
big ball, Dyson light ball etc. Big ball is an alternative version of Cine tic big ball cylinder but
this product is produced without Cine tic technology. Cinetic big ball is the product that does not
need any filters.
Dyson innovative history include its high technology product, services and process.
According to Dyson all products are consists of Prototyping. Porto typing is the core function
relating to production cycle. Dyson after experimenting and testing identified that prototyping is
most important for the product to be successful (Mousavi, Bossink and van Vliet, 2018). This
product is so light weighted and so powerful through which it can make deep cleaning.
Innovation capabilities are related to technology driven capabilities and business driven
capabilities.
Technology capability are related to using different technology to improve the
innovation in product. Technology capabilities define what technology can do in order to
improve the product. Dyson is making use of different technology in order to make the product
innovative. Business capabilities are the strength of organisation which assist them in improving
its various activities of firm (Winterhalter, Zeschky and Gassmann, 2016). Capabilities of

Dyson is that it makes each product with innovation. Product is designed by using the latest
technology to gain more market share.
Dyson innovative products such as bag less vacuum cleaner became successful because
it identified various problems relating to its products such aa vacuum cleaner cleaning process,
vacuum cleaner consist of number of attachment to clean to floor, it was cordless. After
identifying this problems Dyson thought of inventing high technology vacuum motor.
Dyson employ qualified personnel in organisation which assist in bringing new ideas to
organisation. Innovation performance is based on new ideas which are used by organisation and
make the product different from other products of competitors. Innovation assists the
organisation in bridging new product ion the market.
Dyson is the most preferred brand for the machines as it provide product that are
different from other brand and are consisted of high quality. High prices of the products of
Dyson is due to its product quality which attract customers towards it. Dyson has the capability
to attract customers by designing the product by implementing new ideas. Organisation is
increasing its profitability and productivity by increasing their capabilities and improving their
performance level in the market (Stamp, 2017).
Dyson is providing its products in different countries in order to increase it brands image
to attract more customers towards the brand and make it a leading organisation in the world.
Dyson produce its products by using technology which is best suited to the product . Dyson is
using various marketing strategies which assist in increasing their customers such as using digital
technologies to promote the product etc.
The industry in 2016
Dyson is involved in technology industry and producing various electronic products to
customers. Technology industry consist of creation of software and electrical products which
helps individual in performing activities very fast and easily . It helps in saving the time for
production of products by using high techniques. Dyson is involved in technology industry and
producing various products relating to vacuum and various other home appliances. Technology
industry was not so developed in 2016.
These were not so much software and system through which high quality products and be
manufactured with consuming too much time. In 2016, technologies such as hyperloop, cloud
computing , cybersecurity ,advanced techniques for production etc. were not present.

Technology industry provides various benefits to organisation which assist them in increasing
their performance and productivity by using high techniques.
Technology used by Dyson in producing products assist in making the product easily
with high features to improve its performance. Technology industry in 2016 is growing its
market in domestic economy and global economy because of its various advantages which it
provides to companies in making the advanced product.
Technology industry is growing its business worldwide by improving the technology to
provide better results (Technology Sector, 2018). Technological industry in 2016 grow to 4.5%
according to global technological market. Technology industry is regarded as most important
part of the economy as it provide various benefits which will helps the country in economic
growth. Dyson is involved in technology industry as it provide various electrical product which
are made up of advanced technology (Drucker, 2014).
Advanced technology assist in increasing the company performance and efficiency level
and thus support organisation in achieving the profitability. In 2016, technology industry was not
popular as there was lack of innovation and new ideas and also due to lack of resources and too
much dependent on human resource (Möller and Halinen, 2017). Technology industry was
having various security problems which hampers leads to leak of information about company
data to competitors.
Technology industry less prefer to use software and techniques due to its security reason
and lack of improvement. Technology industry in 2016 were lacking various improvement and
advancement such as lack of proper technology, lack of information security, lack of knowledge
and skills regarding various technologies etc.
CONCLUSION
From this study it has been concluded about various innovation made by Dyson which
consist of vacuum and many more. This study has provided description of the organisation and
its innovative history in which it has included about various products developed by Dyson by
suing different innovative ideas. This assignment has provided with Dyson existing performance
innovation and capabilities that has included various techniques used by Dyson to improve its
performance in the market. Cyclone technology is used by organisation in improving its
performance which is related to deep cleaning of dust present in air. This study has provided
with different capabilities of Dyson such as using innovative ideas in each product designing

process to make the product different. This assignment has also provided with overview of
technology industry in 2016 that has included issues such as lack of knowledge and skills
relating to different technologies etc.
