incorporated in 1974. It is operating in the food manufacturing, industrial warehousing and the
fruit growing. It also provides jobs to majority of the people. The introduction of the founder of
the company was done in detail which was followed by describing the nature of the business.

emerging market. Various models were used for analysing the competitive and external

INTRODUCTION
Small and medium sized enterprises play a major role in the economy of the country and the
industry. It is must for the owners of the companies to manage these enterprises as carelessness
in these companies can lead to greater loss and decline in the profitability (Garcia-Garcia, Stone
and Rahimifard, 2019). The report will shed light on the company Davison Canners which
operates in food and production industry of UK. The main aim of the report is to analyse the
overall SME named as Davison Canners and to develop growth and development plan for the
same by analysing various factors of the company such as competition, macro-environmental
factors etc. Various aspects of the company will be discussed in the report which is responsible
for its rapid growth from start up to the established company. The secondary research of the
company will be done to identify the challenges faced by it and the way in which government
supports to resolve the challenges.
FINDINGS
Nature of the entrepreneur
1. Name of the entrepreneur who is the founder of Davison Canners is Alan Davison who
was a male born on 24 March 1936 and died on 14 November 2015 which means he was
79 years old when he took his last breath. He got the degree of B.Sc. from Swasnea
University in 1959 and then done Ph.D. from Imperial College London in the year 1962
under the supervision of Nobel Laureate Sir Geoffrey Wilkinson (Green, Cummins and
Kronauge, 2017). He was an inorganic chemist who was known basically for the work on
transition metals and also served as a professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
2. Davison Canners was incorporated on 19 April 1978 as a private limited company in the
Fruit and Vegetable Processing Industry. The main reason of starting this business is that
almost 40 years ago, the family of Davison started growing and harvesting the first crop
of Irish Bramley Apples then growing rapidly till 40 years they were able to extend this
to 120 acres of orchards which was accredited by AA BRC (Davison Canners Ltd.,
2021). This is how, the firm became one of the leading producers of fruits, jams, bakery
fillings, fruit compotes etc. in UK. From there, the company is striving hard to meet the
