Introduction
Marks & Spencer is a renowned UK based retailer company that has many branches in
UK. Their products and their servitude have made the business very effective in the market. It
means that the environment and the structure of the organization are effective enough to put
positive impact in the mind of the customers. The business is global business and therefore has
many employees who operate the business in an efficient way. There are more than eighty
thousand employees in the company who are operating the business worldwide. Only in UK
there are 852 stores of M&S which tells about the reputation of the company. The management
of the company is divided in different categories. The main head of the company is the MD.
There are HRs marketing head, finance head and procurement head that control the main part of
the business. This is very effective that M&S use different managers for different products. It
means the company has placed different heads in different part of the business.

P1 Role of leaders and managers and their differences
In an organization there are different leaders and managers who control the environment
and the employees of the organization. The roles of the leaders and the managers can be different
depending on the condition of the company.
Leaders: A leader in the organization mainly leads the employees to achieve the desired
goals. It means the leaders are the ones who show path of work to the employees and they follow
it. The motivation and other kind of support are mainly given by a particular leader. It can be
said that the role of a leader is far more effective than the roles of the managers. It is so because
the helps and the contributions of a leader are actually effective in the business field.
Managers: The managers of the organization are the ones who play decisive role in the
field of the business. It can be said that the managers are mainly responsible for taking
organizational decisions in order to make effective changes in the strategies of the organization.
The managers actually want to proceed with the flow of work. They do not bother about the
process of work or whether the employees need any assistance to complete a particular task.
They just want the task to be completed in the given time.
THE DIFFERENCE
Managers have employees where the leaders have their followers. It means the manager
want to do organizational work with the help of the employee but if the employees face any
problematic situations then they will not get any help from the managers but the leaders help the
employees in the most effective way and the employees start to follow the trail of the leaders.
That is the reason leaders have followers rather than employees.
Managers are mainly concerned about the work and the result of the work. If any changes
are needed then the managers can only react and give order to the employees to bring the change
wherever it is needed but the leaders help the employees to bring the change in the organizational
environment. Managers can provide good ideas to the employee leaving the implementation part
upon them but the leaders are the one who play vital roles in order to implement the ideas in the
