INTRODUCTIONOperations management is the process of the business practices to make the maximumlevel of efficiency within an enterprise. It is related with redesigning business operations andcontrolling and designing the process of manufacturing. In this include the duty of ensuring thatemployees effectively meet the needs of consumers. It manage the entire production system inwhich process include converting inputs into outputs. In this report chosen company is Mark &Spencer which deals in retail sector (Bott and Luna, 2017). This company is founded in 1884 byThomas Spencer and Michel Marks. Its headquarters situated in London and United Kingdom.In this include different characteristics and roles of leaders and managers, different situation inorganisation, various theories and models of leadership. In this also consist importance ofoperation management and different factors of environment which affect the company. TASK1P1In the organisation, manager and leader has various role to achieve better results withinan organisation. People are working together to execute different activities and to achieve acommon objective. Organisation is a structure which is managed by group of individuals. Marksand Spencer is a public limited company which was located in London, UK and founded in 1884.Sir Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer was the founder of M&S. Company mainly specialise inmarketing of clothing and accessory goods. ManagerA manager is an individual who perform all the managerial functions like planning,organising, staffing, directing and controlling (Cheng and et. al., 2012). Manager is responsiblefor the all activities and functions of the company. They manage all the activities who contributein success of M&S.Leader

A leader is an individual who influences a group of employee in order to attain goal of afirm. It can be define with 3P's- Person, people and purpose. It means leader is a person whoinfluence people to achieve purpose which is committed with M&S.Difference between characteristics and roles of manager and leaderBasisLeaderManagerVisionA leader create vision and encourageinvolvement of their team membersin turning that vision into reality.They know that where they are andwhere they want to go (Fayol, 2016).In M&S leaders play an importantrole to motivate their team membersand show them a clear vision offuture direction.Managers create goals. Manager of M&Sto build strategic vision make a directwhich is followed by team.RiskLeaders take risk and want to trynew challenges even if they may fail.Leader of M&S motivate theiremployees by telling them thatfailure is a step on a path to success.Managers control the risk. They makeplan to minimize risk. Manager of M&Stry to avoid or control problems.CharacteristicsLeaders have unique personality andqualities. They are self aware andperform effectively to make theirunique personal brand. Leaders ofM&S are authentic and transparent.Manager has different quality to dealswith difficult situation in an easymanner. In context of M&S, managersare adopt leadership style of leaders anddon't create their unique personality.RolesLeaders build relationship with teammembers and focus on their needsand motivation. Leaders of M&Smake trust and loyalty bysystematically completing theirpromise. Leaders play a role ofcoach and provide coaching to teamManagers focus on a structure which isnecessary to set and achieveorganisational objectives. Manager ofM&S give direction to employees andprovide guidance about how toaccomplish task (Handschin andPetroianu, 2012).
