Re: Importance of Professional Networking
The purpose of this memo is to highlight the importance of professional networking and
its impact on the workplace. Any business, irrespective of its size or capacity, depends on the
collaboration and cooperation of various agents, including the owners, investors, shareholders,
managers, employees, customers and all the other relevant stakeholders. Hence, transparent and
persuasive communication is the key to the sustainability of an organization. However, to ensure
the proliferation and expansion, the organization needs to reach out to external resources as well.
To this end, professional networking comes in as an instrumental help. Not only for
organizations, networking is an essential resource for the personal growth and improvement for
the professionals as well. However, it has been observed that many individuals, including top-
level managers and executives often are reticent to expand their professional networks. Hence, it
is worth reviewing the importance and benefits of professional networking.

consider networking essential mostly for seeking new employment opportunities or prospecting.
However, networking is not mere exchange of information with other relevant professionals or
looking for professional favors. Rather, it is an important aspect to build and nurture a long-term,
mutually beneficial relationship with people working in the relevant field. Andrew Hennigan, the
author of “Payforward Networking” and the eminent speaker, trainer and professional coach,
maintains “Networking is a deliberate activity to build, reinforce and maintain relationships of
trust with other people to further your goals. Professional networking is simply networking
focused on professional goals.” (As cited by Brandão, Moro 2017) To this end, professionals are
expected to reach out to others working in the field, increasing their contacts and acquaintances
at a regular pace. Researches show that a steady growth in networking helps organization help
access new resources and opportunities, leading to new level of growth and development.
