Mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance in bacteria
Antimicrobial resistance is the capability of the microbe to resist the
impact of medication which once could successfully treat the microbe.
Such kind of process applies only to bacteria becoming resistant to the
antibiotic. The goal of this essay is to analyse the mechanisms of
antimicrobial resistance in bacteria and evaluate various kinds of
mechanisms.
INTRINSIC: Molecular mechanisms
Drug alteration
The drug alteration is defined as the process of substituting original
crude drug with other similar looking substances. Such kind of process is
used in the development of antibiotic resistance in bacteria and it is very
common with the contraband drug (Blair, et al., 2015). Opium is one of
the best examples of drug alteration which is used with the contraband
drugs for developing antibiotic resistance.
Target modification
Target modification is one of the common processes which are used in
the antibiotic resistance and it has the potential to change result from
spontaneous mutation of the bacterial gene (Kumarasamy, et al., 2010).
The clinical strain is an example of target modification mechanism that
uses the concept of target modification.

Metabolic shunt
It is defined as the alternative process which is used in the development
of antibiotic resistance in bacteria. The term metabolic shunt refers to
the hexose monophosphate shunt that runs parallel to glycolysis. An
example of a metabolic pathway is to generate a huge amount of NADPH
by using metabolic shunt for reducing the glutathione (Labrie, Samson,
and Moineau, 2010).
Permeability barrier
The term permeability barrier refers to the permeable reactive treatment
mechanism which is one of the best techniques for producing antibiotic
resistance in bacteria. Such kind of mechanism also used to detect a
plume of contaminants and remove the contaminants from the body (Van,
et al., 2011). It is observed that the permeability barrier has the potential
for producing uncontaminated water in the body and it involves major
three methods such as sorption, chemical reaction and biological
mechanisms. The cell wall is one of the best examples of the permeability
barrier that protect cells and performances as a sifting process. Mainly,
lockup walls are involved in most prokaryotes and it also acts as a
