MSc Dissertation Proposal 2019
BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE OF THE RESEARCH
One of the most important aspect of the construction industry is the
planning process. The entire success of the construction project depends upon
how the plan has been executed. The famous American Football coach once
mentioned that, “Plan your work and work your plan”. This has a great
significance in the construction industry. However, with the advancing
technology, the construction projects are now undertaken with the help of the
project management team and increase in number of participants in the area of
effectiveness. All though there are numerous people working on a construction
projects, according to the United Kingdom Report on the Performances of the
construction industry only 45% of the projects are completed within time and
only 63% are completed within the planned budget in the whole world. The main
issue in the construction industry is the fact that they are growing in fragments.
The gaps between the different processes in the industry is creating a large
inconsistency in the business and United Arab Emirates is no exemption to that
as well (Lee and Kim 2017).
Concept of the 4D modelling Process:
According to MMM, HS and MRMF, (2016), with the rapid advancement of
the technology there are numerous development in the field of the information
system and technology. 4D modelling is one such technology that is emerging in
the construction industry. According to them, the BIM or the Business
Information Modelling is one such technology which can be considered to be an
achievement in the construction sector. All though one can say that the BIM
models are similar to the 3D geometrical models, they encompasses a larger
area than that which includes the intelligent analysis of the business information
for better results in the construction planning process.
As mentioned by Balakina, Simankina and Lukinov, (2018), the 4D
modelling process is extremely beneficial in the high rise construction. That is, it
helps in the process of visualization of the sequences in which the project can be
proceeded with such that the construction can be completed successfully. This
was supported by Lee and Kim (2017), who said that the 4D simulation connects
the 3D graphics and components of the resources in order to schedule the
processes and deliver Critical Path Method on 4D screens.
Benefit of the 4D modelling over the traditional process of the
construction:
The 4D modelling is capable of showing the complex interdependence of
the tasks which was not quite possible in the traditional method. According to
Ghaffarianhoseini et al. (2017), the 4D modelling can be used in any phase of the
project and it will be able to deliver the same amount of assessment without nay
hindrance. The entire proves of the construction planning can be done with the
help of the 4D modelling which includes the scheduling, budgeting, resource
allocation procurement and all the other necessary elements of a construction.
