Network Communication Assignment Sample_1
A ping message can be used to test the reachability of a host (such as Google with IP address 8.8.8.8) on an Internet Protocol (IP) network. List the steps a ping message takes to get to a host and what layer of the network communication process each step relates to.Your answer:Ping is a network diagnostic tool that is used to check whether a host in a network is alive andor responding. Ping uses ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) query messages. ICMP has 2 types of messages: error reporting and query messages.Since ping uses query messages, the two types are echo-request and echo reply query messages. When a ping command is executed, the source sends an echo-request to the target destination. Ping then sets a sequence identifier which increases every time an echo request message is sent. The TTL (Time to live) period is also set (Malhotra, Gupta, & Bansal, 2011). In the data, the sending time is inserted. For a live and responding host, an echo-reply message is sent back to the source, on receipt ofthe echo-request message. The arrival time of the message is noted and calculates the round-trip time. The pinging process continues until the program is terminated. From the explanation above it is clear Ping program is at the application layerAt the application layer, we have data. The encapsulation process on the source and encapsulation on the destination applies. The echo request is data at source undergoes encapsulation then later encapsulated at the destinationWRITTEN ASSESSMENT TEMPLATE - PAGE2

Secondly, in the run window type “cmd” and click okThe command prompt window will launch, now type the following command “tracert –website.com” or “tracert –d ipaddress” and the window like the one shown below will be shown.WRITTEN ASSESSMENT TEMPLATE - PAGE3

Week TwoAssignment Question:NQ-Real Estate has 8 workstations in a wired LAN with a 100 Mbps switch. It was suggested to the admin officer to replace the switch with a wireless Access Point (AP) that uses the 802.11ac standard and operates at 1 Gbps. Assuming all workstations were simultaneously using the LAN, would the AP deliver faster or slower speeds to the users? Explain your reasoning by including estimates of effective bandwidth for each case.Your answer:Wired LAN and Access Point are comparable to network setup. However, for such a setup like that of NQ-Real Estate AP will serve well because the number of users is small. It will still deliver faster and users can enjoy faster connectivity. However, if the company is to growthen wired LAN is recommended because it is the stable and large volume of data can be transmitted steadily. Your question:What are some of the advantages of wired LAN?Your sample answer:Wire connection is still the most preferred type of connection because of its stability, reliability, security, and transmission capabilities. In terms of security, it is difficult to get access to a wired network without authorization and thus n chance for unauthorized persons toaccess network resources. Wired network has a characteristic of reliable upload/download speed which is not affected by the surrounding. Furthermore, a wired connection is easy to use as it is similar to the principle of plug and play because on does not require scanning for any network. Ethernet can also cover long distances without suffering from attenuation and

can cover up to 330 feet compared with a wireless connection which only goes up to 250 feet (Nami, 2011).

Week ThreeAssignment Question:Describe the difference between a network’s physical topology and its logical topology and explain the advantages and disadvantages of a physical star topology. Your answer:Topology basically means how devices are connected to a network. Physical topology as the term suggests is a terminology used to describe how network devices are actually connected physically or plugged in to one another. These devices include routers, workstations, cable layout among others. On the other hand, logical topology is a description on paper that describes how devices would actually appear when connected physically. Physical Star TopologyIn this model of topology network components are all connected to one common central pointwhich may be a router, hub, or a switch. The diagram below better describes the setup.
Network Communication Assignment Sample_7
Pros of star topologyAs compared to bus topology, star topology has a more stable and better performance becauseit is not necessary to broadcast signals to all the works stations. A message reaches the intended destination without going through many nodes. However, the central hub is the determinant of the network performance in this type of network topology (Mamun, 2012). Secondly, more devices can be added to the network without having to interrupt the normal network functions. Similarly, the devices can be removed in a simple way without compromising the network. Thirdly, it is easy to manage and troubleshoot the network because star topology supports centralized management. Finally, but not least, if one node goes down, the other workstations are not affected and is easy to identify problems and troubleshoot them. ConsStar topology, however, has its own drawbacks. One of the major disadvantages of this type of topology is that if the central hub fails, then the entire network goes down. Secondly, the overall cost of the network is increased due to the necessity to have a central switch, router, orhub. Thirdly, if the central device has lower performance and speed then the network will be slow and unreliable because the performance of the network is fully dependent on the central device. Your question:Name two types of hybrid topology?Your sample answer:The hybrid network topology is a combination of two or more basic network topologies. There exists a number of hybrid network topologies, they include
