Project Scope
The project is to design and plan a network design for a hospital for considering the requirements made by
the hospital case study. There is a requirement of deep research and analysis of the scenario of the hospital.
The hospital consists of 3 major buildings from a near distance of 500 meters from each other. Every building
of the three have a floor infrastructure of 5 levels and on every, there are 10 doctor rooms and 5 patient
wardrooms. In each doctor room there are two ports and in every patient wardroom, there are 3 ports to
connect the PC to the network. The same infrastructure is on every floor of all the buildings of the hospital.
The main building of the hospital also consists of server room involving 3 dedicated servers in the network for
different network operations and there are also 20 ports installed to connect PCs. The main building also
hosts internet with the users in the network by using the router which is directly connected to the ISP for
public internet.
Hardware Requirement
Following are the Hardware requirement for the proper functional model of network design for the hospital
and its buildings:
Network Devices
Below is the table of network hardware requirement for network design of hospital –
Hardware Device Name Description
Router Cisco 2811 Router Manufacturer: Cisco
Series: Cisco’s 2800 Series router
Model: 2811 Router
Ports: 2 FastEthernet Ports, 2 Serial Ports, 1 Console
Port
Switch Cisco 2960-24TT-L Switch Manufacturer: Cisco
Series: Cisco’s 2960 Series Catalyst Switch
Model: 2960-24TT-L Switch
Ports: 24 FastEthernet Ports, 1 Console, 2
GigabitEthernet Port

Types of Cable
The types of cable that are going to be used in the designing of the network totally depend on the functional
result of the network. For the internal LAN (Local Area Network) there are two types of cable to use one is
Copper Straight through and the other is Copper Crossover cable. Copper straight through cable is used for
PCs or ports to connect with the switches and the Copper Crossover cable is used for inter-switch
connections. For the connection between the router and ISP serial cable will be used for WAN or internet
access.
Operating System Requirement
Server Requirement
The servers are installed in the main building to provide network-related service to the users for the
automation purpose. So the server needs a higher configuration than a user PC. Below are the basic minimum
recommendations/ requirements for the servers in the Hospital –
1. Processor – the processors must be high deliverable having a processing architecture of 64-bit and must
be faster than 2.3 GHz
2. RAM – RAM plays a significant role in the total processing load working of the system, greater the RAM
greater load the system can handle. The minimum requirement for the servers must be 4 GB or more to
handle processing of large applications and services
3. Storage – Server storage must be higher than 500 GB to provide more services like file sharing. The cache
of the system must be greater 20 MB or greater. [1]
4. Operating System – The operating system recommended to the hospital is the Windows 2016 Server. The
OS is quite efficient in delivering the services like DNS, web services, file sharing services, active
directories, security etc. [2]
PC Requirement
PCs are for the normal users of the network. They can access the services hosted by the network shared
servers for automation. Following are the minimum requirement/ recommendations for the hospital PCs
–
1. Operating System – Windows 10 is perfect for the normal usage and net surfing for the users. It
supports all the services and provides more graphical assist so that there is no need of technical skill
requirement
2. Processor – Windows 10 requires more 1 GHz of the processor (Intel or AMD) and is functional on
both 32-bit and 64-bit architecture
3. RAM – Minimum requirement for the PC is 1 GB, increasing the RAM will provide more processing
speed
