SUBJECT:
Communication can be conveyed by the use of non-verbal cues which simply involves
the use of facial expressions, gestures, paralinguistic, eye gaze, haptic and appearance. These
nonverbal cues often reveal who we are and how we relate to one another. These non-verbal
means of communications can easily improve the clarity of the message being conveyed,
increase trust and perhaps add interest to your message especially when they are used properly
(Mehrabian, 2017).
Nonverbal means of communications have various effects on the information conveyed.
Example a character in the big bang theory pats another actor on the back when they finish
talking. This shows complement in that it emphasizes what is going on either empathy or it
shows unison. This gesture has a big message to the audience since it shows that there is deep
empathy in the message that has just being conveyed. There is also the use of nodding which is a
facial expression.it is used to show agreement instead of everyone saying I agree they all nod in
unison and this helps complement the play in a big way. The characters also used direct eye
contact when communicating this is essential in communication since it is used to emphasize the
fact that they are all attentive to what is being said, this is a very important aspect of effective
communication since the speaker is able to know that they are being listened to.
The characters in this film are clearly using all aspects needed for effective
communication, these may include actively listening, by maintaining an eye contact with the

speaker this shows that they are actively listening which is one of the key characteristics of
effective communication (Arnold, & Boggs, 2015). The use of gestures also help in emphasizing
the message being communicated by the speaker .this is a very important aspect of effective
communication .effective gestures show emphasis of the information while ineffective gestures
may show weakness but in this particular case, they show emphasis of information as they are
used effectively.
After watching this film I learnt that verbal communication is not enough, nonverbal cues
are equally important especially if you want to emphasize the information being spoken as well
as entice the audience.
