INTRODUCTION
Communication is highly effective for the Nursing and healthcare individual. This is the one
through which they can deliver their services and share information with patient more
effectively. While working in healthcare, communication skills can provide better impact on
delivery of care services. Person-centred care refers to delivery of healthcare services to
individual with proper dignity and respect and are involved in every health decision. This is the
healthcare approaches that includes the healthcare rights for the patient while getting healthcare
services for the improved health. There is a case study where Julie is a patient who is fearing
about her future due to having radical mastectomy for breast cancer. She is fear of her future due
to not able to free movement of her right hand (Kalid & et. al., (2018)). In this report, there is
discussion about range of communication strategies that includes verbal and non-verbal
communication along with SOLER SURETY that can help to communicate and share
information more effectively. There is also discussion about the barrier to effective
communication while delivery healthcare services. There is also discussion about the legal along
with ethical framework related with case study.
MAIN BODY
Range of communication strategies verbal and non-verbal including SOLAR to SURETY
Nursing staff have the role to deliver effective and essential healthcare services which can
help to strengthen the health system (Lim & et. al., (2017)). Through person-centred care, they
can provide better and effective care services to the people that can allow to deliver quality
services. In this, there is need to communicate with their patient that can help to ensure about
effective services delivery. There is need to make better relationship between patient and nursing
staff that can be effective and allow to deliver better support for the patient health improvement.
There are different range of communication strategies which can include verbal and non-verbal
communication including SOLER to SURETY. Here, verbal and non-verbal communication
strategy can have high impact on to communicate with patient. It also help in decision making
according to indvidiual health and their concern.
Verbal communication is highly effective and can provide better impact on conversation
within patient and nursing staff. Verbal communication not just include word choices but this
also includes inflection, stress and tone which can be used for emphasizing and express in

emotions and points (Greer, (2018)). Verbal communication can be highly helpful in providing
information related to patient health and treatment information. This can be effective and help
nursing staff to share the information related with treatment and cure. Verbal communication can
also help nursing staff to ensure patient and take them in confidence that they will get better and
effective treatment and care. Non-verbal communication includes eye contact, body language,
gesture, personal space, facial expression and others (Al-Jumaili, (2017)). In this, there is no use
of verbal language and non-verbal communication may includes written communication where
nursing staff should share it with the patient to ensure that patient formally get the information.
SOLER model includes importance of individual intuition which can be emphasized and can also
includes using of touch. This can be effective and can help patient to make decision and enable
them to be confident regarding nursing staff services. This is the model which increases student
nurse educator to think about their therapeutic space which can help to teach skill of nonverbal
communication. Using this model, nursing staff can communicate with the patient which can be
effective and should ensure about non-verbal communication to share their views and services
with patient consent.
Barriers to effective communication
As a nursing staff there is need to ensure that patient should be communicated
effectively. This can be highly able to provide better information regarding their health services
and treatment. In this, nursing staff need to communicate with patient for better outcome while
delivery of care services. There are some of the barriers which can be included in effective
communication and create difficulty and the delivery of information. This barrier may include
use of jargon, information overload, values and belief, time constraints, environmental issues like
privacy and noise, pain and fatigue. There are various communication barrier that can be
influence effective communication within the nursing staff and patient (Selman, (2017)).
There are some of the barrier which can lead to create issue in promoting anti-
discriminatory practices. These barrier may includes emotional barrier, cultural barrier, gender
barrier, interpersonal barrier and physical barrier. There is need to overcome through these
barrier can help in promoting anit-discriminatory practices.
Time constraint can create a significant barrier to communication for the nursing staff in
delivery of information. In fast way, it cannot provide effective and create interaction within both

parties. This can create difficulty to deliver and receive the information which has been
communicated. It can also impact the quality of communication.
Environmental factor-like privacy and noise can also create a barrier ineffective
communication. This can create barrier while sharing information with the patient or their family
member. In this nursing staff need to take care about patient privacy and should ensure that
confidentiality should be maintained. Noise can also create difficulty during communication.
This can impact listener to receive the shared information due to distortion.
Using of jargon can also create barrier during communication. In this, both individual
should know the meaning of jargon then this communication can have better impact otherwise it
can create an issue to understand (Behruzi, (2017)).
Values and beliefs have also impact on communication. This can create a barrier to
understanding when two different culture people are having communication where values and
believe can have opposite meanings which can create barrier during communication.
Professional, legal along with ethical framework relevant to case study
As a nursing staff, there is a need to ensure that patients should get a better healthcare
services and treatment. Here, nursing staff should ensure that Julie is receiving effective and
quality care and services. It should also ensure that professional practices should be applied in
effective way that can allow Julie to get better health care services. There is also need to ensure
that a legal framework can be utilized for delivering care and services to Julie where it is need to
ensure that Julie is receiving proper care which can be delivered according to advice of
healthcare professionals. This should be effective and need to deliver in a better way for better
health improvement. Nursing staff should also ensure that Julie can get better services that can
help to enable Julie right hand for proper movement. This can be helpful and provide legal
framework where Julie can get quality care. It can include beneficial, respect of autonomy,
justice and deontology. In this, the principle should ensure that Julie is getting better healthcare
services according to effective decision-making. This can help to provide better circumstances
with getting respect from the healthcare professional regarding her rights to receive healthcare
services (Ismail, (2018)).
There is need to follow the NMC standard which can help to provide guidance to perform
the practices according to standard to meet patient needs. Nursing and midwifery council (NMC)
have a code which can place public expectation regarding good nursing and midwifery practices.

NMC is the code that represents a professional standard related with nursing associates which
can involve while practicing within country. This can include reserve safely and prioritizing
people for promoting professionalism along with trust. This can be effective and allowed nursing
staff made to ensure about patient health and provide confidence regarding receiving quality
care. Professional ethics encompasses of ethical code which is governed by the government to
take care of individual practices with the following legal practices. This can include carrying out
their duties and help to ensure about the expectation of service quality that can be between
nursing staff and patient. Nursing staff should ensure about the professional ethical and legal
framework should be applied in an effective way that Julie can receive quality care for her better
health (Dunham & et. al., (2020)).
Codes of professional conduct should also be followed to ethically deliver the services
which can help in patient health improvement. Codes of conduct can allow nursing staff to
follow the standard procedurese that can help to delivery quality services according to patient
needs.
CONCLUSION
From above discussion, it can be concluded that communication plays an important role
in delivery of quality service and care within the healthcare services. This is the one that can
impact a nursing staff and patient directly while sharing of information. For this, there is need for
communication skill that can process by the nursing staff for proper communication and delivery
of services. There are various barrier to effective communication which can create negative
impact and restrict nursing staff and patient to share information. In this report, there is a
discussion about effective communication which can include verbal and nonverbal
communication. There is also discussion about the barriers which can impact communication
within the healthcare premises. There is also discussion about legal professional and ethical
framework that is related with the case study and can provide better help for the patient health
