academic institutions
There is a significant evolution taking place in conventional learning in various
academic institutions as online courses and programs reflecting various affordance of digital
technology deploying online learning in an effective manner with carrying positive outcomes.
Today online courses and learning carries positive outcomes and quickly adopt a strategy
with the use of information technology, data, analysis and predictive modelling to enhance
teaching and student outcomes (Nguyen, 2015). This essay argues the contemporary benefits
of online learning in academic institutions and how these benefits progressively outweigh the
challenges and drawbacks of wide-spread online learning.
From the student perspective, online learning offers multi-faced flexibility with their
personal learning and development. It also dramatically reduces the cost of providing access
to quality educational experiences and resources and specifically to those students who are
living in remote areas. Online learning also brings out personalisation by developing on
student interest, which can boost their motivation, time on task and ultimately effective
learning outcomes. Widespread implementation of online learning also brings various
benefits for the tutors as well as academic institutions. Through online learning platform,
tutors and professors can automate routine tasks and may focus more on high value activities
so as to help the student in grasping well concepts and enable them to showcase competency
more efficiently.
The benefits for the academic institutions can be seen in reducing cost of salary as
well as realizing new opportunities for economics of scale. There can be reduction in salary
cost when the institute transfers some learning and educations programs to computers and
networks, with raising teacher-student ratios as well as redesign the process so that teacher
