MIT Sloan School of Management defined operations management as “Operations management
explores efficiencies in development and logistics preparation, coordinating, and monitoring. This
is delivery-focused, making sure an enterprise efficiently transforms resources to outcomes. From
products, machinery, and technologies to human capital like personnel or employees, the inputs
itself may reflect everything.”

Objectives of operations management
The management of operations is compulsory for companies to manage daily activities flawlessly. A company
will, with its support, make effective usage of its capital and resources such as labors, raw material, capital
and certain other resources.
Objectives:
-To increase efficiency and effectiveness
-To provide quality goods and services
-To utilize maximum capacity
-To improve flexibility in operations
-To increase speed at operations can be executed
-To minimize costs

Principles of operations management
There are multiple kinds of operations management principles which are necessary for an
enterprise to incorporate and introduce new initiatives to ensuring that organizations are able to
accomplish their objectives quickly to successfully pursue their innovative ideas. Toyota also
applying principles of operations management to deal with organisational issues and adoption of
new strategies. These act as systematic guidance framework for organisation to achieve
suitability in performance (Maylor, Turner and Murray-Webster, 2015). In this regard following
is discussion on multiple principles of OM as follows:

Principle of Organization:
It is one main business operations management principle. As per this principle everything is
integrated inside a manufacturing facility. All such must be logical, straightforward and reliable.
Otherwise, the project cannot produce a benefit result. This applies to the various procedures, such
as the production and sale of goods at a greater level. Management system may interact with other
individuals outside work place by providing assorted items. This system focuses on integration of all
the operations to make a complete mechanism. In Toyota under this principle all the manufacturing
operations are designed in way that all these operations are interconnected which make easy to
control them centrally.
