INTRODUCTION
Operations management is the term related to handling day-to-day issues and important
business decisions systematically (Kuznetsov, Tsyrkov and Tsyrkov, 2020). Whereas Project
management is concerned with planning, organizing, guiding, and controlling resources to attain
certain objectives. For the project the chosen organisation is Bentley, an auto-mobile company
which manufacture and market luxury cars. The company is founded in 1919 by W.O. Bentley.
This report is divided in two parts, Part 1 consists introduction of company and difference
of operation vs operations management. It reviews implementation of operations management
principles in an organisation and continuous improvement with Lean principles. Whereas in Part
2, the overview of case study, explanation of PLC at every stage and examine project
methodologies. Lastly it evaluates the effectiveness of PLC in application to project by using
appropriate concepts and theories.
PART 1
Introduction of Company
Bentley is a leading British producer and marketer of cars commenced in 1919 to provide
luxury cars to prominent groups. It has more than 3600 employees distributed world wide. It lays
emphasis on creating and manufacturing advanced cars to maximise convenience of its
customers through continuous advancement in technology (Bentley, 2022). Its aims is to develop
exceptional journeys for consumers with a combination of craftsmanship, creativity and
sustainability. It motive is on making all its cars electric in future to reduce environmental
problems.
Operation vs Operational Management
Operation of a firm includes all the activities necessary to develop and deliver a
company's products and services to its end consumers. It is an on going process that starts with
the firm and continues throughout the company's life. Its work is to manage all the internal
working of company to enhance its performances. Operation plays different roles that leads to
the ultimate success of a company. In Bentley the major operations are planning, designing,
manufacturing and marketing of the cars (Lee, 2018). It undertakes all actions necessary for
combining together the activities that result in delivering goods to its end customers.
