In your lectures, four rationales for organisational analysis are
described.
1 Critically discuss the argument presented by the author(s).
In this article Howard et al. ( 2017) argued that the methods which
are designed for addressing complex systems are required for
knowing and understanding the inter –relationships between learning,
teaching and digital technologies along with the beliefs regarding
learning. The authors have based their study on the efforts to
support the development of technological innovation in rigorous
learning and teaching. They have addressed the complexity in
teaching and learning, explained the system thinking along with the
approach related to technology integration. They have made use of
the teacher model and EDM for examining key factors in digital
technology use in terms of learning. The study is founded on a solid
context. The context is the inconsistency in the integration of digital
technology in terms of learning.
2 What is the method - how do the author(s) convince their readers?
The authors have proposed that the system models are required for
examining complexities of technology integration in terms of teaching
and learning. The analysis have been drawn on data from a large
Australian study of technology innovation . They have used the data
mining techniques for identifying the students’ patterns in terms of
technology and group work perceptions. They made use of a data set
of the New South Wales which was a laptop program . It provided
laptops to all secondary teachers and students between the year
2009 and 2013. In the year 2010 and 2013, this program was
evaluated by teacher, student, parent questionnaire and school case
studies.
These authors took help of student questionnaire from the year 2012.
The data is used for exploring associations among learning and the
technology use. They used the part B between A and B
questionnaires. This part asked the students to consider digital
technology use in their journey of learning. The number of students’
responding to part B was 8817. Hence, it is evident that they relied
on the secondary data and the analysis was conducted in three
primary steps. The steps are factor generation, fuzzy sets creation
and the association rules mining.
The authors conclude giving future implications of the findings. The
authors have addressed only a subset of factors in the system.
Hence, there are points existing to challenge the conclusions. The
work has provided a framework for the exploration of other factors
and the model’s further development. There are some of the
unresolved questions generating from the findings. Moreover, they
have used historical data sets which can be used only for exploring
relationships among factors. However, new data sets should have
been there.

3 Drawing on your answers from analysing Q (1) and (2), critically
analyse and match your analysis to the rational given in Lecture 1 for
Organisational Analysis
In the article of Hirschheim and Klein (1989), it can be seen that
there is a large number of approaches of information systems
security. These often offer the similar type of knowledge as provided
by the natural science. The approaches can be characterized as the
value free, analytical and based in positivism. In this article the
approaches have been organized along two axes to present the four
paradigms of information system development. The objective nature
is described as ‘sociological positivism’ which is characterized by
applying methods and models derived from natural science. On the
other hand, the subjective dimension is completely opposed to this
and rejects the relevance of methods and models. Based on these
two types of dimensions, four paradigms have been suggested.
The study shows that there is a need for methods to handle the
dynamic and complex relationships for understanding the social
systems. The paper presents a combined method of system thinking
and data mining for researching learning and teaching. Hence, it can
be said that it falls under the social relativism paradigm. This is
based on the philosophy of phenomenology. It deals with the
subjective knowledge of the individuals ascribing to the social
situations. The emphasis is put on the activities linking them with the
conduct. The findings show that computer efficacy of the students
can leave impact on the teaching and the learning.
