INTRODUCTIONCulture within business environment plays a major role in achieving the organizationalgoals and objectives. A healthy working environment ensures the effective functioning fbusinesses (Miner, 2015). There are numerous elements that forms an impelling culture such asrole, power, human resource, business policies, etc. In addition to this, it is required that an entityshould have effective teams as per the task (Carpenter, Berry, and Houston, 2014). This reportcovers all the significant aspects of having a good business culture. In this undertaking, all thosefactors that do impacts on an organization will be analyzed. For this assessment, demandedleadership skills will be examined. Further, significance of working in a team will be describedin this study. Besides this, ways in which performance of groups working in the firm can beincreased will be discussed. For analyzing the organizational behavior, the selected organization is Britishbroadcasting corporation (BBC). This mass media company is existing from 95 years by servingpeople globally. On the basis of the report presented by Smith it has been observed that earlierthere were some flaws in several factors of the entity that had affected the overall effectiveness. In this undertaking, all those issues will be identified. TASK 1P1 (a) Using Handy’s cultural typology , identify and discuss the earlier culture of BBC.Depending upon the type, purpose, functions, and etc. cultures of the entities varies widely.According to the, Handy’s cultural typology, there are basically four types or cultures that existsin the organization. These cultures are as follows: Role, power, task and person. In context withthe role culture, there exist some strict rules and regulations that are to be essentially followed bythe companies. In case of task culture, these entities create different teams as per therequirements (Pinder, 2014). These groups thus perform some specific tasks. On the other hand, all the people who are working in the organization are considered as significant and integral partof it in the person culture. In contrary to this, in case of power culture, only high-level authoritiesare provided with the decision-making power.

For the present selected company BBC, it has been observed that earlier there was power cultureimplemented in the business. According to this, only few members or board of directors wereliable for all the decisions that are taken for the entity. Further, the involvement of the lowerlevel employees was optimum (Wagner III, and Hollenbeck 2014) (Greenberg, 2013). It was thehigh level authority who use to influence the employees working in the firm. There are variousdrawbacks of this, for instance: the employees were not motivated that was later reflected in theirperformance. Also, it has reduced the overall working effectiveness of the company. However, itshould be recognized that with the help of this type of culture, the conflicts between employee-employee were less. Also, as the decisions were framed just by the high-level authority so lesstime-consumption was there. However, for the cited firm this type of culture has been proved astoxic as employees termination rate increased tremendously. This is because of the fact that theirdisengagement with the important decisions makes them unsatisfied and not important for thefirm. P1 (b) Affect of culture, power, behavior in BBCIt has been observed from the reports of Smith that initially the working environment ofBBC was not effective. They were the lower level employees who were highly affected due tothe ineffective culture existing in the company. The rationale behind this is the negative use ofpower culture (Champoux, 2016). The higher authorities have major influences on the lowerlevel employees. This resulted in the increased number of termination of employees. Further, thishad caused workers to be discontented. This in turn affected the overall effectiveness of the firm.Earlier, prescribed in 1950 the condition of the firm was not sound. The major reason behind thisis the inappropriate and poor compliance with the rules and regulations. The reduced level of employee motivation has highly harmed the business value. In addition tothis, the noncompliance with the laws leads to some severe issues in BBC. For instance: It hasbeen observed that almost every woman working in the firm at that time has faced sexualharassment. However, after the execution of some relevant laws by the jurisdiction, number ofsuch cases decreased. Besides this, it has been found that there were large variations in the salarystructure of males and females. This discrimination has lead t reduction in the female employees. However, after the law emerged in 1975 for Equal Rights, all employees were granted equalwages irrespective of their race, color, gender, etc. (Hogg and Terry, 2014).
