1. Discuss, in one paragraph, the concept of business ethics.
Business ethics pertains to the study of policies and practices that are related to
business conduct. The aspects of corporate governance, insider trading,
discrimination, CSR policies and bribery are all related to business ethics. Business
ethics establish trust between the stakeholders and the company.
2. Discuss ethical leadership and its importance in supporting organisational
values.
Ethical leadership requires leaders that operate within ethical guidelines.
Organizations run on some policies and guidelines that echo their visions and values.
Ethical leaders also ensure that the company is run by the ethical values, rights of
people and dignity of others. They are highly successful in keeping the trust of both
the organization and the stakeholders.
3. Discuss three characteristics of an ethical leader.
Three characteristics of ethical leadership are:
The ethical leaders are just and fair
They have respect for people and are able to understand the rights of the
individuals
Team building mentality and value driven decisions.
4. Give, and explain, three benefits of ethical leadership.

The benefits of ethical leadership are:
Ethical leadership guarantees that the organization is following the laws and
policies by the government.
Ethical leader’s sense of justice and fairness builds a better and healthier
workplace which increases employee productivity.
The conscientious attitude of the ethical leaders ensure that less errors happen
and more efficient decision making takes place.
The workplace becomes more diverse and inclusive, thus promoting an equal
workplace.
5. Discuss four (4) styles of leadership and the impact each of the identified styles
on organisational culture.
The four styles of leadership styles based n authority are: autocratic, democratic,
Laisse-Faire and Paternalistic leadership. The authoritarian leader takes most
decisions by himself and thus leads to a high performance organization while in the
end employee retention becomes problematic. The democratic leaders consult and
includes the employees in the decision-making process leading to a motivated and
enthusiastic workforce. The laisse-faire leadership are non-interfering and thus
provides an independent environment where employees are able to develop their own
working style. The paternalistic leadership style, the leader is more fatherly and he
guides, teaches his people and protects them from harm.
6. Explain how a charismatic leader can assist in ensuring that a company’s vision
is implemented.

Charismatic leaders are dedicated to the company mission and vision. They have the
ability to motivate employees to make some sacrifices to meet the standards that they
set. They are true visionaries and thus work for the fulfilment of the company vision.
7. Discuss at least three strategies that can be used to encourage employee
participation in decision-making.
Three strategies of employee participation in decision-making are:
Suggestion box are effective way of looking at the employee opinions.
Employee surveys are more detailed and efficient way of gathering popular
opinion.
Setting up leadership committees comprised with employees who will be
working as liaisons between the management and the employees,
8. Discuss three strategies that a leader can use for building trust and confidence
with colleagues.
Three strategies are:
Be honest and supportive of the colleagues and give assistance to them in
need.
Build accountability and responsibility so that people are aware that the leader
is able to take responsibility.
Building relationships through emotional intelligence.
9. Explain the importance of leadership in ensuring that work health and safety
legislation is met.
Leaders are dedicated to the organization and they have equal commitment to the
employees. Leaders must ensure the wellbeing of the employees and the health and
