Environmental Sustainability and Organizational Behavior
Environmental sustainability means carrying out a defined behavior which seeks to promote the
welfare of the environment. Within the workplace, environmental sustainability relates to
creation of healthy environment where all the employees are focused towards the end goal
(O’Connor and Grant 2018, 136-153). Further, organization behavior relates to the study of
human behavior into the organization in order to decide job structure and the work environment.
Moreover, making the organization sustainable is part of organizational behavior as the
employees are motivated and empowered towards the attainment of the sustainable business
(Miner 2015). Here, the assignment will focus on the BreadTalk Singapore which is food and
beverage company. The following section will discuss the influences of organizational behavior
on the maintenance of healthy workplace environment and the role of motivation and
empowerment in ensuring sustainable business for BreadTalk.
Organizational behavior relates to the actions and behaviors of the employees within the
workplace. It also defines the environment of work which is directly related to the behavior of
the employees (Bauer, et al. 2018, 163). Moreover, the environment of the organization can
have positive or negative impact upon the organization’s behavior as the employee behave
ethically when they are getting positive working environment, supportive guidance, reduced
work pressure and also getting motivated which not only improves their behavior but also leads
to long term profitability of the company (Grant, O’Connor and Studholme 2018, 1-23).
Thus, it can be said that improvement in the work environment can lead to increased job
satisfaction and improving the productivity of the company. Similarly, Breadtalk has undertaken
various programs which includes training and redesigning of the works and technology
deployment. The company has also good retention techniques which ultimately increases the
morale of employees and creates positive working environment and thereby contributing to
organizational behavior.
Moreover, organizational behavior is the deep study of attitude and behavior of the employees
which is directly influenced by the work environment that the employees are facing within the
daily routine (Podsakoff, MacKenzie and Podsakoff 2018). Also, it is observed that when
the work environment is negative or stressful employees are seemed to be leaving the

organization due to negative environmental factors being influencing their actions and behavior
(Elovainio, et al. 2015, 289). Some of the industries have negative working environment and
also have unsafe working place. It has impact on the behavior of the employees and thereby
seeking to have an impact on the organizational behavior. Also, physical environment is also
having influence on organizational behavior. It includes inappropriate workstations, poorly
arranged safety measures, lack of protection etc are some of the environmental factors within the
organization that majorly affects the behavior of the organization (Kamarulzaman, et al.
2011, 262-268). However, BreadTalk consider employees as the most effective stakeholders of
the company. The company has engagement strategies for the employees with the consistent
remuneration and also provide them training for the effective management of customers. All of
these concerns played a vital role in the development of healthy work environment that not only
supports employees but also helps the organizations to attain sustainability. Also, the company
has undertaken several improvements in the physical environment such as workplace safety
through meeting compliances and adhering of the food hygiene.
Motivation and Empowerment
Motivation is concerned with the act of encouraging skills and abilities of the employees in order
to make them focused towards the end goal (Herzberg 2017). Empowerment is concerned with
praising the knowledge of the employees. Both the terms have great significance into the
organizational behavior. Similarly, BreadTalk has utilized motivation to empower the employees
and keep them focused and motivated towards the objectives of the company. Also, for
maintaining a sustainable environment into the organization, the company has taken crucial steps
for the motivation of the employees.
Also, motivation and empowerment both create a positive feeling in the consumers and alos
reduced turnover rates. Motivation is not only about giving rewards; it is also concerned with the
recognition. Further, when the employees are motivated, then it seeks improve the attitude and
opinion of the employees regarding the job and related environment that majorly influences the
organizational behavior (Rubin and Babbie 2016). The following points will explain the role
of motivation and empowerment into the sustainable business of BreadTalk:
