employees think, feel and react at the work place. In this report, I shall attempt to make an
analysis of the organizational behavior of 4Com Plc. and how it can possibly be improved. 4Com
Plc. provides telecommunication products and services. The company aims to grow its business
on a large scale and achieve success in the market place by outcompeting other firms. In this
report, I shall analyze how organizational culture influence the success and performance of
individuals and teams.
How does organizational culture, politics and power influence the behavior and
performance of individuals and teams.
Culture, power and politics are three key elements of any firm’s organizational behavior
that have major influence on individual and team behavior and performance. In this modern age
where businesses are increasingly competitive, organizations have focused largely on how to
gain a competitive edge against competition in the market. This competitive edge is mainly
concerned with how organizations will satisfy their customer’s wants by providing them with
high quality goods and services that will meet their expectations.
Organizational culture can be best interpreted with the help of Handy’s culture typology
that effectively evaluates organizational culture. Handy’s typology has various components,
these are: power culture, role culture, task culture and person culture (Driskil, 2018, p. 22).
According to Treven, Mulej, and Lynn (2018, p.28), 4Com is essential as it makes
organizations to become a benchmark for various competitors through giving total satisfaction
towards the consumers as well as constructing the atmosphere in which the individuals are
motivated to advance, participate, and share in the outcome. 4Com as an organization should aim
to apply process and content theories to encourage their workers. 4Com may choose to use

theory, and Alderfer's ERG theory. On the other hand, 4Com may apply, Vroom’s expectancy
theory as well as Adman’s equity theory under process theory.
The structure of the organization is a vital element of daily activities concerning business
operations. A company is advantaged from organizational structure due to all it encompasses.
Also, it is applied in defining the ways the undertakings are grouped, coordinated, and divided.
Six components should be addressed at the time of designing of the structure organizational.
These include departmentalization, spans of control, chain of command, specialization of work,
decentralization, as well as centralization (Treven, Mulej & Lynn 2018, p.28). These elements
directly reflect the organization’s culture, politics, and power.
In this context, teams play a significant role in the carrying out of an organization’s
operations in an organized-coordinated and planned manner. They achieve this through the
creation of effective management of activities amongst the workers and juniors. 4Com Plc.
should endeavor to divide its work between its different departments in which employees work
towards accomplishing the administration's objectives. 4Com Plc. as a medium sized group can
expand its efficiency and the effectiveness of its actions by carrying out its events through the
use of teams that are properly organized (Mark 2018, p.5). These organizations can be evaluated
as effective or ineffective.
Power culture is one of the most crucial components in this typology and has diverse
contributions to an organization’s working environment. Business organizations tend to have
their main focus on becoming leaders in their respective markets by providing their customer’s
with a variety of goods and services that satisfy their wants and needs. 4Com Plc. has various
departments in it and each has its assigned role that it sets out to achieve. In the department’s
quest to meet these goals, power is assigned to the managers or supervisors of the respective

departments for the purpose of ensuring that decision making is effective and contributes to the
organization’s growth and success. By using power culture in 4Com Plc., its overall
effectiveness and efficiency can be improved and business processes can also run in a smooth
manner. This will improve the performance of employees in this enterprise as the managers and
supervisors will guide the workers to achieve business goals which will improve their work
performance and they can perform in an appropriate manner in a team also.
Role culture is another key component in Handy’s culture typology. Each department in
the organization performs its own unique role in the firm. In organizations, individuals higher in
the rank of authority are responsible for assigning roles to their subordinates in accordance to
their capability and knowledge. 4Com Plc. as an organization ins largely focused on expanding
its business on a large scale and to do this it is necessary that roles are properly assigned to
various employees in accordance to their capability and this will ensure that resources are
properly allocated and utilized: this will consequently lead to 4Com achieving its set goals. It
will also improve the overall performance of workers towards achieving business goals as they
will be assigned various tasks and responsibilities in an effective manner by their seniors who are
more experienced. It will also improve the team performance when workers are guided properly.
Task culture prescribes that various tasks are categorized and assigned to their
appropriate departments as assigned by managers or supervisors. This ensures that the firm’s
goals and objectives are systematically organized and accomplished. Thus task culture will
enable 4Com to attain a higher competitive edge against its competition in the market and
consequently achieve its goal. Due to this systematic form, the individual will work in a
systematic manner towards attaining their business goals and the team will also be able to
achieve their targets within a specified period of time.
