Understanding people and organizations
The positive psychology is the science of positive aspects in the human life. Taken
for example the well-being, happiness and the flourishing too come under the positive
psychology. In the words of Martin Seligman, positive psychology is the scientific study of
the optimal human functioning that aims to discover and also promote the factors which
allow particular individuals and the communities to thrive (Standlea, 2012). A reflection is
guided by many of the written prompts and this is the best practice for the critical reflection.
It helps the students to respond to the prompts before, during and after the prompts. The
critical reflection can also be integrated into different types of experiential learning activity.
In this reflective paper, I will describe what I have learnt and how I will incorporate the five
identified talents in my professional life. It will also help in integrating the strategies for
effectively interacting with people around a diverse professional context.
In the module 1, I have learnt about how to reflect on myself and what is the
importance of cultural intelligence. After going through the Clifton Strengths Survey and the
Group coaching sessions, I have found that there are five talents within me such as
Connectedness, Adaptability, woo, positivity and strategic skills. Regarding the
connectedness, I have understood that I can easily build relationship with people around
especially (Gallup Strengths Center, 2018). I am considered among those people who have
faith in their links between all the things and believe in the theme of connectedness. I also
believe that there are few coincide and every event has a reason behind it. As far as my
second talent is concerned, it is the adaptability because I prefer to go with the flow. I tend to
be the “now “ people taking all the things as they come across and discover all the future at a
time. The third talent as identified by me is Woo or ‘influencing’ (Gallup Strengths Center,
2017). It is the talent of influencing people around. As per this theme, I love the challenge of
meeting with new people, meeting them and winning over them.

I become satisfied when I break the ice and make a connection with the person sitting
next to me. My other two talents are positivity and strategic mindedness. The talent of
positivity helps people to be enthusiastic and contagious. Hence, I am upbeat and can easily
get others excited about what people do. This talent is also helpful in the strategic thinking.
The strategic thinking is another talent which supports when in a given scenario, people spot
the relevant issues and patterns. After receiving the results, I have become surprised about the
talent of adaptability as I thought myself to be weak in this. Previously I thought that I would
be finding difficulties in dealing with different situations and different people according to
the theories of Matson and Robison (2017). It was my view that I would face the
communication and perspective related differences in diverse situation but the results
surprised me a lot. When I went through the survey and the test results regarding the five
talents, I immediately resonated with the positivity theme because I was quite confident about
it. In my class and among my peers, I am known for retaining the positive nature no matter
what situation is faced. In any difficult situation or in any case of a failure too, I keep calm,
hold my patience and proceed with what is right and wise. I can also say that I am hopeful,
inspired and persistent.
The survey has definitely helped me to have an improved understanding of my
talents, my strengths which I can apply in my professional world. Since I have connectedness
and woo as my greatest talents, I will be able to connect with people in the board meetings,
new employees and the customers too in an organization as per the comments of Rath,
(2007). On the other hand, with the talent of strategic mindedness, I agree with the views of
Rath and Conchie (2008). I assert that I will be able to make marketing plans for a company
and lead a given project with a team too. However, I also think that I will face certain
challenges and the greatest of them will be decision making skills. I need to work on my
decision making skills to reach my career goals and as per my understanding the talent of
