Importance of Safety Patient Culture in Saudi Arabian Hospitals
Safety culture entails the combination of values, competencies, and attitudes of
professional officers in a healthcare organization (Mahrous, 2018). Patient safety culture is
obtained from the commitment and proficiency of clinicians, nurses, specialists, and
caregivers who work together for the benefit of patients. In order to attain the desired safety
culture, healthcare administrators should establish a mutual trust and shared objectives in its
operations. Therefore, a properly constituted patient safety culture is beneficial in the
following ways;
Creating staff awareness in the organization about patient safety culture.
Enlightening staff members about patient safety culture is the background for achieving the
desired results. When specialists and caregivers are properly trained about the needs of
patients, they enhance the quality of care because they will create a supportive environment
for the recovery of their patients (Mahrous, 2018). Besides medical treatments, these staff
members can offer psychological counselling and social support for the health of their
patients.
Secondly, patient safety culture is essential in assessing the status of healthcare in a
hospital. This enables sustainability of health standards and improvement of patient care. By
assessing the status of healthcare provision, the administrators can ascertain the quality of
care thereby recommending changes which can be implemented for the benefit of the patients

(Santa, Borrero, Ferrer & Gherissi, 2018). Accordingly, it is important to note that patients
require regular assessments so that caregivers can understand their daily progress.
Thirdly, patient safety culture is required for identifying the strengths and
weaknesses of a healthcare program in a hospital (Weaver et al, 2013). As a result, it
becomes easy for the administrators to configure the areas which need improvement. By
understanding the strengths, a hospital can focus on these privileges to promote the quality of
care. On the other hand, knowing the weaknesses can enhance adjustment of patient care to
improve patient’s welfare.
Patient healthcare leads to the introduction of initiatives and interventions aimed at
creating cultural impacts. Having understood the needs of patients in a healthcare facility, the
caregivers can decide whether to use medical treatments or clinical interventions in dealing
with such cases (Ransom, 2008). This way, patient safety care can be attained through
evaluation of the hospital culture and quality of healthcare administration. This is an
approach which can work best for patients which require a combination of medical care and
psychosocial intervention.
Lastly, patient safety culture helps in examining the trends in healthcare and
evaluation of recurring cases in the facility. When caregivers are properly informed about the
cases which they are dealing with, it becomes easy to provide solutions with lasting effects on
the health status of patients (Ransom, 2008). Therefore, patient safety culture helps in
ascertaining that healthcare is administered in a professional manner.
