INTRODUCTIONPersonal and professional development both are the essence of human life. They are importantfor the growth of individuals. In a way, both are co related to each other. In order to growprofessionally, one must grow as an individual first. If a person doesn't learn new skills, doesn'tdevelop, then he may not get promoted and soon he might be terminated from the organizationbecause he is not contributing towards the growth of the company. Current report emphasises onNational Trust Company established in United Kingdom in the year 1898. The company is anindependent working charity organization for conservation of environment and heritage. As of2019, around 5.6 million people are associated with it and the total number of employees aremore than 12000. The report will highlight on topic like self- managed learning, personal andprofessional development and some other development needs.TASK 1Understand how self-managed learning can enhance lifelong development1.1 Evaluating approaches of self-managed learningSelf- managed learning is also known as individual learning. It is the learning done by anindividual through different ways. This not only enhances their professional skills but also makesthem self sufficient. Self- managed learning can be done in different ways. The major approachesof self- managed learning areActivist: Activist learning is also known as learning by doing. This is the theory in whichan individual learns by practically implementation. It is based on hit and trial method. They learn by new experiences.Theorist: These learners give preference to theories rather than practical facts. Theybelieve in logical statistics, facts, journals and graphs. They tend to analyse the situationin advance and develop hypothesis before practically doing it.Reflector: Reflectors focus on observations. These people give importance to previousevents and make conclusions from them. Later on, they collect important informationwhich helps them to learn.Pragmatist: Pragmatist, as the name suggests is a practical person. They believe in reallife results and give less preference to theories.

Modern ways of self-managed learning areSeminars: Seminars, workshops and conferences are modern tools of learning. Although, they are not completely self managed but are important to learn new skills especially inan organization.Internet: Internet is the most popular and practical tool of all the above. It is used bypeople all around the globe. The internet has an answer to every question, problem anddoubt. It not only helps in personal but also in professional learning. The only demerit ofInternet learning is that it may provide less reliable or false information at times. (Ahmedand Ward, 2016)Workshops and seminars: Workshop and seminars are another practical based tool thathelps in the individual growth and development. It not only helps in learning new skillsand strategies but also contribute towards improving communication skills, expertknowledge and networking. The best approach in my opinion for self managed learning is to attend workshops and seminars. It is useful both from self development and business growth prospects. Attending publicseminars and workshops can also help in promoting the business, interacting with potentialclients and also gives an overall motivation to the team members to work hard with maximumproductivity.1.2 Ways in which life long learning in personal and professional contexts can be encouraged. Life long learning is important for an individual growth and development. It is as important forprofessional development as it is for personal development. Learning is the essence of life and inthis dynamic world it has become imperative to learn otherwise an individual will lag behind.Life long learning can be encouraged bySWOT analysis: SWOT analysis is as important for personal growth and development asit is for an organization. It is important for a person to learn continuously and this can bedone by performing SWOT analysis. SWOT analysis helps in identifying the strengthsand weaknesses of an individual. It also helps in forecasting the future opportunities andthreats an individual is going to face. This gives them a clear idea of what they need tolearn and how this learning can help them in countering future threats and grabbingopportunities.

Self reflective learning: Self reflective learning helps an individual in identifying theircore areas of development and then deciding on the skills that they should learn for theirgrowth.Continuous professional development: In order to grow as a person and to learn newskills, one needs to keep learning. Learning should not be stopped no matter whatbecause if a person stops learning then it will hamper their professional development. This is an important way for encouraging learning. For instance, the self managed learning has helped in positively contributing towards the growthand development of National Trust, United Kingdom.1.3 Benefits of self managed learning to individual and groupIndividuals who learn independently tend to grow more as a person. They love to adaptnew skills and express their opinion in important situations and meetings.Self managed learning improves the relationship of a person with the rest of the team. This also leads to individuals helping their team in adopting and learning new skills. It is overall beneficial for both organisation and individual because both get equal advantagesfrom self managed learning. The organization gets the benefit of profit maximization whileindividuals get benefit of overall development. Moreover, the self managed learning also makesthe team members more responsible as they understand their authority and duties whichminimizes errors and mistakes. As a result, it saves the time and efforts of the organisation andhelp in achievement of goals and objectives effectively and efficiently. Self managed individualalso solve problems through their innovation and creativity which further helps in their overalldevelopment.TASK 2Be able to take responsibility for own personal and professional development2.1 Evaluating own current skills and competencies against professional standards andorganizational objectives
