INTRODUCTIONAn individual can achieve growth and success in their personal as well as professionalcareer if they continuously develop their skills and capabilities either through engaging inlearning programs conducted by others or through self managed learning. But before this, it isimportant for an individual to conduct personal skills audit and accordingly prepare personal andprofessional development plan to eliminate their weaknesses through maximising their strengths.It drives them to bring ahead their rivals and perform in satisfactory manner. The presentassignment report is based on Travelodge Hotel Limited which is engaged in providinghospitality services throughout the UK. It was established in the year 1985 at England, UK andfrom then to now, it becomes one of the largest budgeted hotel. This project will evaluate thebenefits and approaches to self-managed learning along with the ways for lifelong learning inpersonal and professional contexts. This report will further discuss the responsibility for ownpersonal and professional development. Also implementation and development of own personaland professional development plan along with the demonstration of acquired interpersonal andtransferable skills will be discussed in this report.1

TASK 11.1 Evaluate approaches to self-managed learningSelf-managed learning: It refers to the way by which an individual can manage theirlearning at their own without getting reliant on another. This requires an organisation to haveself-managed learning programmers which can teach its staff to develop in certain direction, oreither an individual can take responsibility at their own through taking decisions regarding theareas in which development is needed. An individual can easily be motivated through setting upan objective, aims and requirements which drives them to develop their learning to achievewithin pre-determined time period. There are different approaches of self-managed learningwhich are defined as under:Learning through research: Under this approach, an individual have option of developits learning through conducting research using various methods such as interviews, usinginternet etc. It help an individual in gaining new knowledge through observing the outcomereceived under research so that it can further implement in execution of their allotted task.Learning from others:Conferences: Individual can have an opportunity to participate in conferences andseminars which builds their confidence in public speaking. For this, Travelodge should arrangevarious conferences for their staff in order to teach them about the methods, working of theirrivals etc. This will help individuals to work effectively which drives them to achieve desiredgoals and objectives.Mentoring/Coaching: Mentoring is defines as a professional relationship whichexperienced employee guide or instruct others in enhancing their skills and knowledge bysharing past experiences with them regarding completion of work more effectively. Travelodgeis having experienced employees which assist and motivate others to perform in desired way.From these approaches, Travelodge can use mentoring/coaching approach as it is mosteasiest and economic way to maximise the learning of an individual regarding company,market, products and competitors.
