INTRODUCTIONIn order to learn and grow throughout career, individual should develop personal andprofessional skills. It is also important for continue learn and developing skills and knowledgefor updating to work legally, safely and effectively. Personal development includes activitieswhich improves identity and awareness, build human capital, develop potential and talents,employment facilities, enhancing quality of life and contributing realisation of aspirations anddreams. Professional development is way of learning in order to maintain or earn credentialsincluding formal coursework, informal learning opportunities, attending conferences situated inpractice (Cooke, 2012). Both are very important for development of individual as well ascompany for better outcome. The given project is based on Travelodge Hotels Limited whichwas incorporated in 1985 at England, United Kingdom. It is private company dealing inhospitality and hotel industry which is second largest in budget hotel and third biggest in numberof bedrooms. In this report will be discussion about self-managed learning can enhance lifelongdevelopment, responsibility and implementation for own personal and professional developmentplan.

TASK 11.1 Evaluate approaches to self-managed learningSelf-managed learning – It is way through which individuals manage their ownlearning. It is type of methods for individuals to learn various things from society, work orsurrounding and related with identifying purpose, goal setting for learning and way forachievement of goals. There are various approaches for self-managed learning such as:Learning through research- In this approach, individual can learn through help ofresearch work, literature review and market condition. Travelodge should provide suchopportunity to their staffs in order to learn from research so that they can apply it in practicalapproach (Dixon and et. al., 2014).Learning from others- Under this, learning can be done through various sources whichare given below:Mentoring/Coaching- Mentoring is relationship where experienced person guide lessexperienced through conducting classes and providing coaching to improve them. All necessaryinformation should be given to them related with firm, market and others. Travelodge has manymentors in order to guide staff for better performance of work.Conferences- Individual can gain knowledge through help of conferences and seminars.It also assists in building confidence in public speaking. Travelodge arrange various conferencefor their worker about work, methods, competitors. This leads them to work effectively andefficiently for firm to achieve goal and objectives. Travelodge uses mentoring and coaching approaches for their organisation. As it iseasiest and simplest way to enhance learning about company, market, products, competitors. Allqueries of candidates are solved in this approach. Also, mentor provide proper guideline anddirection to increase skills and knowledge.In order to provide learning various platforms has been used such as internet, socialnetwork, bulletin boards and newsgroup. These all provide information instantly to individual inorder to catch their attention and improve them. This also helps in creating awareness about firmand their competitors (Floyd, 2012).

1.2 Propose ways in which lifelong learning in personal and professional could encouragedLifelong learning- It is ongoing, self-motivated and voluntary pursuing knowledge forprofessional or personal reasons. It enhances social inclusions, personal development, activecitizenship, self-sustainability, employability and competitiveness. It is required most inTravelodge to provide learning to their staff and employees.Self-Directed Learning- In this individual takes responsibility and initiative foroccurrence of events. It is the way through which individual select, assess and manage ownlearning activities.Continuing Professional Development- It is process for documenting and trackingskills, experience and knowledge that are gained informally and formally through work orbeyond initial training. It is record of apply, learn and experience. It is mainly for managing owndevelopment through ongoing basis.Lifelong learning is beneficial for growth of people in which individual chose to developtheir personal and professional skill. It is important for one self to continuously improve forachieving final goal and objectives (Hildebrand, 2018). There is various way in which personaland professional knowledge could be encouraged which are as follows:Higher Education- Higher education to all individual helps them to take effectivedecisions. Education is never ending process which helps in improving oneself. Lifelong learninghelps in higher education for achieving result. Thus, higher education helps Travelodge 'semployees to learn new things and enhance skills for surviving competitive era.Apprenticeships- An apprenticeship is type of on job training given to trade andprofession for accomplishment of result. It enables practitioners to gain license to practice inprofession. This is type of lifelong learning which encourages personal and professionaldevelopment of individual (King, 2014).1.3 Benefits of self-managed learning to Assistant Manager and organisationSelf-managed learning is the way to develop learning process itself. This is process,where goals and objectives are decided by individual. Some advantages to them are:

Improved ability range with Personal Learning – Manager can enhance their capabilitywithin organisation. This helps in increasing confidence of manager to do any type of activities.Travelodge's assistant manager need to improve themselves with changing environment. Forexample, if assistant manager can adopt any change then it can lead organisation at success level.Improving levels of skills– The assistant manager of Travel lodge should improve skillswhich they can gain from self-managed learning. They can enhance their knowledge by learningnew skills and sharing with others and put them into practice.
