INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development (PPD) is formal method through which an
individual determine its own objectives, strategies and results of learning and training. It further
help in improvising the skills, abilities and knowledge of the individual so that they give their
best performance. Personal and professional development is important method adopted by
supervisors, managers or leaders to amend the efficiency, capability and learning of their
employees (Polly and Hannafin, 2011). It further involve use of various educational and training
development programs in the workplace.
PPD is effective way for building the morale of employees and influencing them to give
their maximum productivity. It further build self awareness among members so they know what
is expected from them and how they should work to fulfill the expectation of their employer.
With the help of PPD plan individuals can perform their work in better way and chances of the
mistakes is reduced to large extent (Potter and Rockinson‐Szapkiw, 2012). The overall
effectiveness of employees is improved with the help of Personal and professional development

1.1 Evaluating the approaches to self managed learning
Self managed learning depict a procedure through which a person take initiative, with or
without the help of others, in identifying their learning needs, developing learning objectives,
assessing the resources for gaining knowledge and thereafter, selecting and employing suitable
learning strategies (Sailors and Price, 2010). This process is followed by the evaluation of
learning results. Self managed learning help individual in achieving its individual objectives in

There are various approaches of self managed learning which are discussed as follows:
Learning through research: In order to gain in depth knowledge of various concept, a
individual can use analyze qualitative and quantitative data.
Internet: It is cost effective source that provide plentiful information about every aspect
related to learning. There are various, books, journals, PDFs, news and other information
that can be accessed by individual to gain knowledge (Segers, Beausaert and Gijselaers,
2011).
Mentoring: The individual seeking knowledge can learn new theories and concepts and
from more knowledgeable individual in specific field. The mentors further provide
support, guidance and advice to the employees which improves their understanding about

follows: Visual: According to this aspect, individual can gain knowledge through its visual ability.
Therefore, learners gain knowledge through information depicted through charts, spider
diagrams, maps, graphs etc (Stanley, 2011). Auditory: It involve learning of information through hearing aids. Here, individuals can
learn through the group discussions, seminars, lectures, brain storming session etc. Reading: This aspect, states that individual can enhance its learning through its reading
skills (Zimmerman and Labuhn, 2012). Therefore, one can access various books,
journals, reports, manuals etc. The data available on internet can also be used to enhance
knowledge.

Kinesthetic: It is effective method that state best learning can be done through practicing

Interpersonal skills: It is important skills that will help in working cordially and
collectively with various individuals having different nature, educational qualification

able to make solution of problems which I am facing at the workplace. As I have achieved
certain goals and objectives which I have decided. The needs which I am able to improve is
become motivated towards my work so that I will be able to perform my duties effectively. As I
didn't finalize time for improving my communication skills, I am not able to achieve that on
time. In addition to this, I am also not able to improve my decision making abilities as just
watching the professional videos is not much enough for me to take efficient decision for the
business, because I am not able to implement those things on practical issues (Sadlo, G., 2016).
Other than this, I am able to increase my level of confidence because just participating in
the group activities is much enough thing for improving confidence level. Other than this, I have
achieved the goal of increasing listening ability through attending seminars and conferences of
the experts. As I regularly attained the seminars and conference of the professional people which
will help me to enhance my listening capacity. Other than this, I am not able to increase
knowledge of graphic and web designing as I didn't fix any time period for that so takes a lots of

4.1 Select solutions to work-based problems
The problem which I am facing at my workplace that is Tesco Plc is miscommunication
between team members and mismanagement of time. The team was experiencing personal
disconnect with other team members which later become non-functional team. These issues were
often base from the top management in which communication breakdowns and confuses the
team and personal common goals. As there are different mindsets of the people and different
types of background so that they react accordingly (Noe, 2010). This problem is occurred due to
the attribute conflicts, supervisor issues, rigid company structure and some employees are
suffering from personal trauma. These both problems gets connected to each other because some
of the employees are not that qualified in the retail company through which employees issues
and team problems related to the organization occurred. The possible solutions can be considered
on the conversation at hand and should avoid unwanted interruptions (Halinen, 2012). Superiors
must offer constant feedback and adoptive link should be there between them and employees.
When facing team issues, managers must diagnose the problem and take immediate corrective
action to avoid more serious performance breakdowns.
The other work place problem I has faced is time mismanagement in which the task are
not able to complete on the time. Due to the lack of communication between the supervisor and
subordinate leads to the time mismanagement. This can be avoid through the managing the time
effectively in the given time frame (Irwin.Sutherland, Howard and Markauskaite, 2010). For this,
the workplace can make the schedule for the next and accordingly, divide the work to their
employees. There should be time frame in which allotted time to be done so that more people
will do the work properly. Practising the time management regularly will assists in minimizing
the stress and improvise the quality of life of the employees.
4.2 Communicate in a variety of styles and appropriate manner at various levels
The learning styles
There are various learning styles which help the individual to over come the issues and
challenges which occurred in the organization. For the above situation, there are three learning
styles which suitable best for the organization to overcome that product. Firstly, the Tesco Plc
should imply visual learning in which visual learners do their best when visually stimulated. An

employee will do well when they are visual learner because they will do their work with the
instructions which are in form of illustration and colourful. Secondly, the company should
trained their employees for the auditory learner in which they should hear the instructions given
by the colleagues and supervisors (Dickmann and Doherty, 2010). By which there will be no
problems will occurred and the employees will done their work smoothly. Lastly, the firm should
emphasis on the Kinaesthetic learning style in which the employees takes the training to
improvise themselves. In this, kinaesthetic learners will give their best performance when they
can complete hands on training and this will reduced the employees' issues in the team by which
team problem will get lessen.
Communicating the information at strategic, tactical and operational levels
The operational, strategic and tactical plans are co related with each other. They are
important to the levels in which operational level is necessary to attain the tactic level and tactic
level further leads to the achievement of strategic level which helps in the achievement of the
organizational goals (Halinen, 2012). To communicate any problems, the internal
communications are needed to communicate the work. This three levels are important because
they developed the strategic and tactical plans which will lead to the better performance of the
organization and enhances their profitability.
4.3 Evaluating and using the effective time-management strategies
Time management strategies refers to those plan of actions that can be used to manage
work effectively and perform it within the stipulated time frame. These skills are significant for
every employee as they assist in completing the important task on time. Being, a manger of
Tesco, I have to complete various projects on time. Time management strategies will help in
attaining the work targets. Also, I can maintain balance between work and social life by using
my time management skills. Therefore, following strategies can be used to ensure time
management:
Prioritization of work: To manage work properly it is crucial for me to set priorities. In
this respect, I can rank my work as per its importance and urgency. Therefore, the
projects with urgent deadlines must be performed first. To ensure prioritization of work,
and stimulate team members to complete the assigned work on time I have to ensure that

they have proper knowledge about the organizational objectives and various operational
activities (Dickmann and Doherty, 2010).
Preparation of work chart: The work chart or work schedule can be prepared and
various activities that are required to be performed must be listed. This will act as
reminder and prevent from forgetting the important task.
Division of work: It is important for me to ensure proper division of work and
responsibilities between team members. This will reduce the overburden of work on
particular individual. This will also help in performing different task effectively on time.
However, being a manager it is important for me to assign task and duties as per the
capacity of person (Time management skills. 2011).
Avoiding multi tasking: Due to performing several task at same time many of the
important task are left out or deadlines are not achieved. Therefore, it is important for me
to avoid multitasking and ensure particular work is performed at given time. This will
also help in reducing the confusion and enhance my effectiveness (Queensland
Government, 2016).

Summing up the entire report, it has been identified that, personal and professional
development plan must be adopted by every individual so as to attain individual as well as
organizational goals. PPD plan will help in constantly upgrading the skills, knowledge and
efficiency of individual so they remain up to date with the dynamic scene and methods. It has
been identified that there are various methods that can be used by individual to manage its own
learning such as, learning through research, seminar, internet etc. VARK theory help a individual

managed learning to individual as well as entity such as it leads to increase in productivity of
employee, lead to career advancement etc. Further, from analysing the own performance it has
been identified that being a manger I am lacking in various areas. Therefore, I can use PPD plan
to improve my skills. In addition to this aspect, I should also upgrade the PPD plan from time to
time. It has been identified from the report that I can use time management skills to complete my
work on time. In this respect, I can use strategies like, work prioritization, scheduling etc.
