Personal statement for applying for mental health nursing in University
Because of my own experience of employment in the profession of caring as well as
supporting in solving the issues of patients suffering from assortment of mental disabilities,
my ambition for studying for a degree in Mental Health Nursing and to grow my career in
this area has been developed. The main motive of applying for this course is I want to support
people who are suffering from mental illness. Seeking help from the skills I have obtained
while working as a help worker along with studying a health professions course, I think I will
going to attain my objective of getting enrolled in this University. I have acquired some
knowledge as well as experience into the mental health career at the time of working as a part
time helper. My role comprised communicating with the patients, writing care plans for them
and performing rounds of wards with healthcare professionals. Concerning this, I want to
expand my array of knowledge at a degree level and probably higher. In addition to this, I am
also well aware in regards with the significance of treating people without judging them and
respecting their equality in a mental health background, for example working with workers
and customers with varied cultural backgrounds. As per my opinion, it is very crucial to
utilize the role of mental health for promoting mental health illness to the general public.
Further, I am also persuaded that mental illness is that field of study wherein people always
feel uncomfortable in regards with communicating with others and also stay back in
rendering support to those who are suffering from the same. I possess good interpersonal and
communication skills which I think u have acquired while working in my part time job.
Additionally, I have also learned how to do documentation when I worked with customers
which required care plans. All this has taught me the significance of communication along
with working in teams as it has contributed towards supporting people who have been
suffering from mental illness.
There is one area of mental health nursing which I am very much fond of and it is
nothing but empathy and patient being required in this career. This sometimes proves
rewarding particularly in relation with the support I can render. I was born and raised in UK
and having a parents who have both worked as a care giver. Because of my parents I have a
waste knowledge of what work really means in this field. I grew up looking my parents and
have always seen a contentment in their eyes and face after helping people in any manner
they can. Even, one of my family member also suffered from mental health issues and I have
seen her facing trouble in sharing her views, feelings and issues with others. However, with
the support of my family members, her experience with the mental health issues was not bad

and she came out from that issues easily. All this has encouraged me to pursue my career in
mental health nursing. I am also aware that studying in this field will be very challenging but
my confidence, abilities and skills will support me in fulfilling my ambition of treating other
in a mental healthcare environment.
