Organisational behaviour is a quite important aspect which deals with overall behaviour and
attitude of individuals in an organisation. Various internal and external factors that affect growth
and productivity have also been mentioned in this report. By adopting organisational behaviour,
it has been understood that if a manager uses this approach then it may be quite beneficial for the
company (Kitchin, 2017). This report has been framed on Basuba Eathai which is a UK based
chain of hotels. It is headquartered currently in London and is earning great benefits. This report
encompasses various elements such as influence of organisational culture on team as well as
individual performance. Also, this report explains various motivational theories (process and
content) along with team development theories and approaches. Lastly this report also focusses
on effective as well as ineffective team.

It has around 24 restaurants all over UK and has brought about a new modification in their hotel

behaviour along with their attitude and performance in an organisation. Main aim of leaders and
managers behind practising organisational behaviour is to develop a formal and stable approach
which helps in maximising performance and productivity of individuals. Organisational
behaviour comprises of various components and factors such as power, politics and culture

which are expected to affect performance of individuals. Managers of Basuba Eathai have
chosen to implement Handy's typology in their organisational culture so as to be effective in their
operations. Various key elements of Handy's typology have further been stated as under:
Organisational culture: It is an important tool which helps in judging or examining behaviour
and attitude of individuals. This is usually done through a number of elements such as
assumptions of individuals, beliefs, thoughts, values etc (Elsmore, 2017). Organisational culture
plays a quite important role in behaviour of individuals and the way they interact or perform
within groups. Culture mainly includes a company norms, values, systems and vision.
Organisational culture mainly impacts upon the way in which an individual and a group in an
organisation interact with other that include, clients and shareholders.

aim of a business concern is to timely complete their tasks within a specified time frame. By
doing so business will be able to achieve a stable and sustainable image in market. Task culture
is more flexible and is of horizontal nature. Managers of Basuba Eathai form effective teams that
are divided based on tasks which help in timely completion of tasks. This will help Basuba
Eathai in formulating a positive communication flow in their working structure and encourage

absent in their branches which should be adopted so as to develop a sense of belongingness in

been stated that it is main aim of managers to formulate effective strategies which will help in
maintaining a positive and healthy working conditions in their hotels. Also, it enhances
productivity of workers and provides them a stable working environment.
Positive Impact: By adopting a positive culture in their organisation, managers of Basuba Eathai
can ensure better performance and productivity. Also, it helps in building morale of employees.

Impact of Politics: Politics is an important tool which creates uneasiness and unhealthy work
environment in an organisation. Political situations tend to arise in a business concern whenever
managers or employees try being superior or manipulative in their approach. It is basically an
unethical and unhealthy process by which employees tend to gain status and power. In context of
Basuba Eathai it has been examined that managers need to ensure that no unhealthy and
unethical politics is existent in their company. This helps in ensuring higher productivity.

Negative impact: Ineffective or unhealthy political conditions create a quite unhealthy and
negative working environment in a business. This further hamper overall productivity of a
company and deteriorates performance and productivity of employees. Furthermore, it may
many a times even have a major effect on brand image of a business.
Power in organisation
Power is a name given to authority which helps managers and leaders in influencing or inspiring
their subordinates to complete a given task (Boddy, 2015). Various types of power have further
been stated as under:
Reward power: In reward power, managers are authorized to offer reward to an employee as per
their level of performance. Reward power, can be in the form of salary increment, bonus,
promotion etc.
Coercive power: In coercive power, mangers are fully authorized to punish their subordinates
and employees. They can give them threat of demotion, dismissal and suspension.

London have undertaken coercive power in their business concern. Hence it creates a sense of
lack of motivation in employees. Hence in this case to build up morale of employees it is quite
important that managers focus on reward power so that efficiency and effectiveness of

Negative impact: As per coercive power it is a negative approach will further lessen a sense of
belongingness and loyalty in employees (Ruck, Welch and Menara, 2017). If any business
employs such a culture it may tend to loosen motivation and productivity of employees.
Recommendations: By adopting various organisational cultures it has been examined that
Busaba Eathai will gain profits only if they provide a healthy working environment to their
employees. Also it has been recommended that managers should timely provide training to
employees so that their skills remains effective. No unethical or illegal business practices should
be conducted which will further build morale of employees in Busaba.

TASK 2 - How to influence behaviour of others by adopting motivational theories.
Motivation: Motivation is a key ingredient of each individual’s personality. It refers to a desire
that helps people in moving towards their goals and successfully achieving them as well. It is the
main driving tool in an individual's personality which helps them in achieving goals and
objectives within a specified time frame. This can be in the form of internal or external factors
and interaction of both conscious as well as unconscious factors must be ensured. Various types
of motivation have further been mentioned as under:
Intrinsic motivation: It is a type of motivation which refers to behaviour and attitude of
individuals that is gained by adopting various internal tools and rewards. It is self-applied in
nature and gets evolved only in case of direct relationships between individuals as well as their
working situations. It happens to be an essential element in training and boosting morale of
employees.

Extrinsic motivation: Extrinsic motivation refers to a tool that focusses on behaviour of
individuals that gets driven by rewards. It can also be known as an operant conditioning where
basically rewards and punishments are employed so as to enhance effectiveness in behaviour of
individuals (Cherry, 2017). For an example, employees receiving extra amount for performing a
task is a source of extrinsic motivation.
Furthermore, various motivational theories have also been stated which will help in raising
morale of employees in Basuba Eathai.
Herzberg two factor theory: This theory of motivation was proposed by Fredrick Herzberg in
1951 and is also known as motivation hygiene theory or dual factor theory. As per this theory job
satisfaction in individuals is dependent upon two factors i.e. factors that drive satisfaction and
factors that do not promote satisfaction. This theory helps leaders and managers in enhancing
performance and productivity of individuals at workplace. The two factors of motivation have
further been discussed as under:
Hygiene factors: Factors that drive motivation in employees mindset at their organisation. These
factors are important but cannot provide long term satisfaction to employees (Hall and et. al.,
2016). Hygiene factors is a name given to factors which motivate and satisfy employees when
they are present in substantial and adequate amounts. These factors are generally extrinsic in
nature and are not present in minds of people. Various examples of hygiene factors include pay,

been examined that managers can use this theory for motivating their employees and developing

Motivational factors: Factors that yield optimism and positivity in the minds of people are

of motivational factors include recognition, sense of belongingness, growth aspects etc. These

demotivated if they feel that their efforts are greater than results obtained.
This theory considers a balance between inputs and outputs so as to achieve organisational
objectives (Kallio, Kallio and Blomberg, 2015). Managers of Basuba Eathai use this theory to
motivate and satisfy their employees. For this they further need to adopt various tools and
techniques which ensure that employees efforts do not get wasted and they can achieve a higher

Integrity: Integrity refers to reputation and goodwill of a company in external competitive
market. Integrity of a firm can only remain stable only when a business concern offers excellent
quality goods and services to its customers (Geppert, 2017).

organisation based on their skills and area of expertise. This will help in ensuring that each and

Path goal leadership theory: Path goal leadership theory is an important tool which is

ORGANISATIONAL PHILOSOPHIES: These are basic guidelines or a set of values that
employees and managers in a company follow. It is basically referred to as characteristic features
of a business concern which separates it from others. In context of Busaba Eathai it has been
noticed that its managers believe on enduring philosophy which states states beliefs and thoughts
of a person. Main idea of managers in bringing this ideology in their company was to develop a
unique brand image of their company which further enhances their customer base.

Recommendations: In present context Basuba Eathai is facing certain issues such as lack of
motivation in its employees other than London branch. Also, managers of the restaurant are not
able to deal with linguistic and cultural differences which has been a major issue for their brand
image. Hence it has been recommended that managers should adopt training and development
sessions for their staff members so that their morale can be built and they can also learn to accept
changes. This will be greatly beneficial in raising goodwill of restaurant and performance of its
employees as well.
