Executive Summery
This report aims to provide an in-depth analysis of gastronomy and tourism and the way local
sites provide these experiences. In this regard, two sites were visited; a farmers market named
Victoria market in Melbourne and a food truck joint named Welcome Thornbury. The
Experience Economy describes that in order to charge money from the tourists the sites need
to provide one of a kind experience that will create a long-term impression on the visitors.
Through the concepts of the theory, it is found that both the sites provide that kind of
experience thus are mostly thronged with tourists. The four realms of experience that ensures
tourist satisfaction and immersion are all present in the sites. They are a complete experience
and engage all the senses of the visitors. The report recommends improvement to the sites as
well as promotional strategies to attract more travelers. It is concluded that the sites play a
vital role in Australian tourism and economy of the localities and thus must be preserved.

sites that provide unique experience. For this report, I visited the Victoria farmer’s market in
Melbourne and a food truck named Welcome Thornbury. Both of the sites provide food

experience that makes it stand out from the others (Pine and Gilmore 2013). In this report, the
experience economy theory has been discussed and its relation to tourism and gastronomy
has been established. Following that, the two chosen sites have been described graphically
and the specialties of each of them has been described. Finally, the sites have been analyzed
through experience theory and recommendations have been made for improvement.

The Experience Economy theory describes the creation of experience. When a
company uses goods as props and their service as stage, they are able to engage their
consumers and provide them a memorable experience. The key concept is that individuals
perceive the experience differently and their experience is personal to them, unlike the goods
and the services that are same (Bujdosó et al 2015). In experience economy theory, there are
four realms of experience explained by Pine and Gilmore. The four realms are entertainment,
educational, esthetic and escapist. The most common kind of experience is entertainment. It
requires very less participation of the consumers. The educational experience requires
