There are Four parts to your Assessment within this module: (failure to complete any one part will result in a failed
project)
• A reference list to include six items of appropriate evidence from a topic of your choice and
relating to one of the Essential Skills Clusters (NMC, 2010).
• A precis of two of the articles of evidence (250 words per article) - at least one of these articles must be
from a peer reviewed journal and one must be a primary piece of research .
• A 1000 word reflection on their experience of the above (researching the evidence).
• Construct an Action plan of 2 academic and 2 practice related targets that will develop your professional
and academic skills for nursing.

Formative assessment:
You will be placed into groups by your seminar leader and given a topic to research and then
present at the end of the semester. The topics will relate to “The Essential Skills Clusters” (NMC,
2010)
This will enable you to undertake a search for the evidence on which to base your
Presentation.
Summative assessment:
From your search you will create your ‘Folder of Evidence’
 You will create a reference list of evidence which should include: a book; at least two peer
reviewed journal articles; online policy or legislation and a primary piece of research.
 You will use two of the chosen articles to write a ‘precis’ (review summary)
 You will then reflect on how and why you searched for this evidence, using the Template
provided and based on the Driscoll model of reflection.
 This exercise will finally enable you to consider and develop future learning outcomes for
practice, using the Action Plan Template. You should include 2 academic and 2 practice
related learning targets
The Summative Assessment requires you to submit all four elements of the Folder
of Evidence, which you have been developing through the semester.
Your submitted work must be presented in size 12, Arial font with 1.5 line spacing.
The reflection should be no more than 1000 words and YOU MUST use the Template
provided.
Your action plan must be based around SMARTER objectives for practice.

Background:
Nutrition is the major element for the development of the human body physically and
mentally. This is the foremost requirement which is needed by an individual for developing him
mentally and physically (Contento, 2010). Due to lack of proper nutrition in the human body
may create so many diseases in the early childhood which may be recognised for the long term.
These affected children may have malnutrition which affect them mentally and physically. In
the under developed nation, majority of the children are malnutrition. This is the main reason
that is why their guardian needs to be educated about the basic nutrients which can be used by
them so that they can overcome these diseases effectively. However, there is a need to make
certain strategy so that this can be overcome effectively (Su and Kuo, 2010). There have been
deployment of the peer-reviewed approach which ensures that public and people are being
informed about the benefits of nutrients and fluids. The World health organisation has stated
that people who are known to be provide care to people must be possessed with ideal skill and
knowledge.
Methodology:
These are so many terms that can be used by the guardians so that they could face
malnutrition and save their children from their adverse effect. Although, the regular exercises
can also help suffered individuals in order to overcome those diseases which happens due to the
malnutrition.
 Primary sources: It is known as one of the most crucial method which is free from any
mistakes. Because they are empirical research study conducted by using questionnaires,
survey and personal observations.
 Descriptive method: It is detail analysis of any health and nutritional informations. It
consists of content analysis and historical data evaluations (Stein-Parbury, 2013).
Strength:
 The advancement in the technology can helps the doctors or scientists to diagnose the
disease so effectively.
 The diagnosis of the diseases can help the patients to effective care and control and try

Weakness:
 A wide range of medical issues can affect persons appetite. This can cause because of
medicines or surgery and some other reasons.
 They have lost too much weight during the initial stages of any issues.
Results:
Now the imaging technologies are also developed which reflects the clear picture of the
patients and tries to overcome their disease by applying various tools (Oldewage-Theron and
Egal, 2010). The nurses make various strategies so that they could effectively do practices in
their workplace. But this can be possible by conducting primary research. Primary research is
done by doing random sampling on the 50 respondents. Descriptive or correlation research is
one of the vital research techniques by which proper survey and observations can be drawn. It
can be mainly be analyse by using various events, experiences and other behaviours that is been
carried out in a specific research. This particular process is more sensitive and meaning are
more clear by which the emergent of knowledge is been applied to a particular problem. These

2011).
Methodology:
This particular segment is taken from journal which is mainly related with discussion from
various magazine and papers. The method is helpful in building research about various kind of
literature which is relies on theoretical frameworks in prevention and control measurement. This
research have been taking consideration of the qualitative approach as it inclines into taking
observation and survey of people in the community hospital.
Strength:
Adequate controlling and supervisory skills are likewise needed by nurse during delegating
crucial task to other team members involved in patient care (Dudek and Dudek, 2013). There is a
strong need to promote patients to eat and drink in a manner which promotes health viability.
Weakness:
They might not have practical knowledge about the proper nursing practices at the
workplace. This would make them less efficient (Masters, 2015).
Results:
After making proper analysis of nursing practices in order to handle various patient those
facing sever problem of malnutrition. The research is helpful to guiding right directions to them.
To know this, various graduate nurses must know diverse range of components which affects an
individual’s dietary requirements and food and fluid intake. These covers physical, social and
psychological components, entire of which might influence nutritional choice. Registered nurses
are required assess that malnutrition is a term which elaborates either malnutrition is or over
nutrition. Malnutrition is a state where there is a lack of energy, protein or nutrient intake
harmful to body requirements (Dudek and Dudek, 2013).
The accountability of the nurses to determine malnutrition and also takes steps to convene
nutritional screening of patients so that they could take effective steps to overcome their
problems. Henceforth, there is a need to be familiar with nutritional screening methods. This has
been done by conducting secondary research technique. By taking data from the diverse
hospitals, researcher can analyse the topic in an effective manner. With the involvement of
proper data, evaluation and analysis of every past issues with the present one. They would be

Reflective Account of searching the Literature
This research is about the essential skills cluster which are needed by the nurses while practising
at workplace. There has been an application of Drsicoll's reflection model so that it is being
fulfilled in the right manner. Essential skills cluster is required for smooth practising. This
research is done by using primary research.

Ans: Essential skill cluster: This includes about having essential skills in the profession which
helps in performance of their different functions. As a nurse I want to have essential skills
regarding the management of fluid intake and nutrition in the patients. To attain such skills, I
need to practise these essential component which helps in development of my skills (Borneuf
and Haigh, (2010). The essential skills cluster which is possess by me shows my key skills and
behaviours which guides me regarding fulfilling of the standards which are provide by Nursing
Council. These skills help me to help the patient in recovery from illness.
Why: The need behind the research of the essential skills by me is to follow the standards
which are provide by Nursing Council (Scully, 2011). By following these standards helps me
development of my skills regarding the management of fluid intake and nutrition in the patients
effectively so, I can help them in attainment of optimum health (Black, 2016).
Reflective tools used by me: There are many tools are used by me in development of my skills.
This helps in development of my nursing skills, technical skills, patient care, cultural
competency, decision making skills etc. Reflection is an appropriate process of representing self
experience or knowledge of an individual in order to make understand others about personal
learning. As per Driscoll model of reflection it is consider as a window by which an individual
can easily view their own experience in order to present information.
What I Do: The main aim of my regarding adoption of such different tools is to develop my
skills and build my professional career as nurse. The tools includes closed communication loop,
readback, checklists and SBAR tools. Adoption of such tools also helps me in following the
different standards which are provide by council and saves the life of patients by providing them
with suitable care (Garafutdinova and et al., 2015). This standard is providing me direction in
performance of my different functions in the nursing sector.

Ans: After adoption of the different tools and development of skills I feel motivated and
enthusiastic (Abele, Penprase and Ternes, 2013). This helps me to build different skills which
helps in development of overall personality like communication skills, leadership skills etc. The
major contribution of following the standards is to build passion regarding my work and serves
higher for the health of [patients which ensures their safety (Bridgstock, 2011). I feel like my
personality and professional career is developed.
There are many things went well during the development of essentials skills (Fernandez,
Salamonson and Griffiths, 2012). The things which went well are planning effective care,
monitoring nutritional status, monitoring fluid intake etc. Development of monitoring skills
helps me in effectively management of the nutrition and fluid intake in the patients. The things
which are done better due to essential skills cluster is the development of working environment
and development of the schedules of eating and drinking. Formulation of right schedule of
drinking and eating are helpful in fulfilling requirements of nutrition in the body. This helps me
in adequate nutrition and hydration in the patients (Su, and Kuo, 2010).
In the development process as gained from the literature requires a lots of time which hinder
the future growth of my professional career and determination of needs which are to be catered
to an individual.

Ans: By effectively applying practices in a workplace, there is a need to make certain strategies
that can be used by the nurses. So that the nurses can manage the situation effectively. However,
by educating patients, the nurses can overcome the situations in an effective manner. Although,
there is a strong need to adopt these tools in an effective manner (Mashiach Eizenberg, 2011).
The diverse nurses are promoted to include leadership roles, but nurses’ learning
requirements are mostly cross checked so that they can learn positions of leadership.
Irrespective importance of adopting how nurse role must be emerged and requirements of senior
nurses. Quality of nurses’ leadership could affects the quality of care.
For better care is a country programme in the NHS in Scotland. There is a need to know about
the main concentration on the line manager emerging packages aimed at those who
professionally line control nurses (Findlow, 2012).
There are various reasons for development of nursing practices so that they could
effectively manage patients in the workplace. However, there is a need to make effective

training and development practices in order to emerge development. This has been done
effectively done by using development and training tools (Hood, 2013). The nursing theories is
another dreaded, seemingly forgettable aspects of the nursing eduction experiences. These
theorists are try to memorise what they mainly stand for and provide more effective outcomes to
resolve various nursing issues.
Virginia Henderson: It is mainly related with need theory which relies on various practices
and eduction. It emphasised the necessity of increasing customers independences to promote
their progress after hospitalisation.
Unitary human beings: It seeks to increase symphonic interaction among environment and
individual to coherence and integrity of human beings to realisation of maximum health
potential.
Self care theory: It consists of physical, inter personnel and social aspects those are related
