Developing a personal development plan for maintaining skills that are useful in performing
various jobs. Certain generic skills are also required for meeting the set goals and objectives.

One must have a set of skills sets that is required to improve / boost your carrier growth, when
you plan it for a period of say five years. To move faster through the channel of managerial, one
should have the following skills
1. Administering time:
Time management is very much required for a successful professional/ manager. It is a
set of methods and principles that someone follows to improve the quality of life. It is the
activities that we need to perform in our day to day life to achieve o the strategic goals in
log run. How do you find time for all the jobs that you need to do?By asking certain basic
question to yourself, certain elements regarding time management will be clear. These
include identifying the ways in which you spend your maximum time, recognising the
occupied and unoccupied time you have, etc. You have to use a time log to track what
you do a day. It will show all your activities done in a day with the time period. This will
gain you an overview of the activities you do a day and can avoid the time wasters or
unproductive activities. When you have identified your time wasters you can develop
strategies to avoid them so that you can use time more effectively.
2. Stress management
Stress management is an essential skill which has to be acquired for achieving success at
managerial level. Stress is the amount of pressure or tension a person has because of his
day to day activities. The best way to manage your stress is to identify the sources of
stress in your life. Also follow the following

 Say No –Learn how to say NO to your co-workers if you think that the
work they delegating to you doesn’t come under your scope.
 Avoid people – Learn to avoid people who irritates you and brings stress
in your life

The professional skills required to support strategic direction of the organisation are as follows.
1. Innovative. An innovative person should be able to challenge the current process or
situation and continuously monitor if the employees in the organisation are doing the
right things and also suggest if they can do it better in any other ways.
2. Critical Thinking- Every employee must possess the power to think critically over every
situation. This helps in taking decisions more effectively without causing negative

consequences. Company is directly benefited with this type of skill because work based
problems are effectively managed through critical thinking.
3. Focus on people - Must be able to resolved the issues of the people as a leader
4. Inspire - Must be able to inspire people by which they can deliver better quality results
by focusing on the company mission statements and explaining them what exactly needs

each and every employ by the ways of mentoring, counselling and training. A regular

Learning styles vary from one person to another. Knowing your own learning style can help you
identify your strengths and weaknesses. (AC 2.2 apply appropriate techniques to identify
preferred learning style).
There are three different types of learning depending on every individual. They are as follows.
1. Visual. In this technique, one will prepare learning using visual aids like pictures and
images

2. Auditory – In this technique, one will prefer to learn by the way of sound like music,
audio recordings or sound.
3. Kinaesthetic, / Tactile - In this technique, one will prefer to learn by using hands, body
or sense of touch
The preferences or choices through which effective understanding is acquired by the
learner help in gaining an insight for the concerned learning style. Following technique can be
applied for recognising the correct and preferred learning style of an individual. Step 1: The individual has to enrol in each learning dimension and provide respective
explanations whether concerned dimension is helpful or not. This can be performed
through using Index of Learning styles Questionnaire. The response for this shall be
helpful in identifying the right learning style for the concerned person. Step 2: Response acquired by the person has to be interpreted well and analysed as per
the dimensions of learning. The place when response depicts an out of balance situation
depicts that there is no requirement of a specific learning style while one particular
learning style is largely preferred.
 Step 3: The balance out areas depict that these dimensions of learning require certain
improvements and strategies for enhancement. However, the one which is reflected in
majority of responses is an indicator of the respective learning style.
There are some types of learners which have been categorised as follows: Sensory learners: The individuals that are highly dependent on their sensory emotions
for developing familiarity and concentration with regards to specific situations then they
have inclination towards sensory learning. For instance, blind people learn about new
individuals or identify specific situations through their sense of listening and smelling. Intuitive learners: Many a times, people completely rely on their intuitions and do not
investigate much deeper which depicts they take the risk of leaving many stones
unturned. This results in ineffective decision making at times. Visual learners: Pictures, graphs or visual graphics that contain certain information are
used as the basic source of learning by visual learners. These learners are highly
dependent on written i.e. visual info which automatically puts them into trouble of
ineffective learning through auditory skills. Verbal learners: These types of learners have ability to convert the information which is
presented in audio format into visual graphics. They are quick and efficient and also
enhance their skills through audio-visual learnings. Active learners: It is advisable to implement any decision or take any action with proper
judgement and analysis. But some people do not go for this step and directly implement

their actions. These type of learners are active learners and they do not have effective
concentration while discussions and analysis.
 Reflective learners: The individuals that have tendency of thinking deeply about every
aspect associated with an event are known as reflective learners. These tend to have less
capability of taking risks but have practical approaches.
All the aforementioned types of learners have their specific characteristics. In order to
identify the right learning style a person should be able to recognise the fact that he belongs to
certain group from the aforementioned types.

My preferred Learning style is visual learning and I use visual learning to convey ideas more
effectively to the clients. I use presentations during my meetings to explain scenarios, and to
explain job aids. Visual; aids can also be used to motivate peoples by sharing videos etc. which
became, the meeting or learning much interactive. Also, this kind of learning is highly effective
as the people are better served that text books or classroom notes cannot cover (graphs, images
and charts).
IMPACT OF OWN LEARNING STYLE TO ACHIEVE STRATEGIC GOALS.
As I mentioned I am a very good visual and tactile learner. I can easily be implemented these
styles in to achieve the strategic goals. The differences between the learners is striking, and the
kinds of activities in which they have been engaged have varied from traditional trainings
extending over weeks or months to one-off taster sessions and language days. When it comes to
the impact of the experience on those who have participated, however, I am sharing my
experiences. I have improved my following areas very well;
 Improved self-esteem
 More confidence in themselves
 Better communication skills
 Pride in their achievement
Another effect that group leaders have noticed is that participants have become more extroverts
and that learning about other languages and cultures has helped them to think of things other than
their own day-to-day problems and obsessions. The experience has extended their horizons.
