I recently faced a negative experience in the place that I work. Presently, I am the
senior designer of my company and my job is to design different organizational products.
Recently, my team leader told me to design a product which was based on 3d printing
technology. He even provided me a blueprint of the product which showed the specifications
of the product. The blueprint really made my job easier. Initially, I accepted the assignment
and started to do my research on the product on the web. After through research I came to the
conclusion that the product was already being used by another company with the same
specifications that my team leader had told me to do. I refused to complete the assignment
immediately. This led to the conflict in my workplace.
The reason for the conflict was that my senior team member did not want to
acknowledge that the actions could have serious repercussions. The company could face
several lawsuits due to infringement of copyrights of the products that the victim company
was already using. Our company could face massive misdemeanour of their reputation due to
the consequences of the action. Even I could have faced possible repercussions as I was the
chief product designer of the company. The senior authorities did not take my rejection
lightly and told me to continue with my work without any more questions.
The above experience taught me some basic things about professional ethics. Being a
professional, it is my duty to do my task diligently. The team leader was a bad example of
diligent professional. His professional conduct well as mine could have been tampered by his
actions. Our company could have gone in a lot of trouble due to the proposed actions as they
could have charged with a number of lawsuits on copyright violation. Due to his actions, not
only me but also the rest of the employees pf the company could have faced a lot of trouble.
I decided to face the situation head on. Considering the serious ness of the matter, I
would have told my authorities about the prospective situation and would have told them to

reconsider the action that the team leader was going to conduct. Being the chief designer, I
would have given them some recommendations if they were unable to think the situation
properly. As the designer I was capable enough to design the product from scratch.
The positive impact of the situation was that my team leader and the rest of the senior
authorities decide do go with my recommendation. The negative impact of the situation was
that the team leader got angry on me.
