Without constructive, good governance and leadership qualities, one cannot foster and
implement good skills when leading a project, an organization or individuals (Joseph, et al.,
2016, p. 36). With outstanding project leadership and governance knowledge, one will be in a
position to influence the individuals to attain common goals. Good governance can be exercised
when managing a project for enhancing development. Good governance and leadership involve
effectiveness and equity in all aspects (Sotarauta, 2016, p. 48). In this paper, I am going to
discuss why I have chosen this unit and how it will help me in supervising and leading in a
project course. I will start by discussing the characteristics of a good leader governing a project.
Covering project leadership and governance unit will help me in understanding qualities
of effective leadership in leading individuals in a project. The leadership may vary in individuals.
However, to lead people effectively, one must be competent; a leader should have expertise in
the field of specialization. The people one is leading should see him or her not only from the
professional point of view but also from leadership competence perspective. While governing a
project, the leader should accept criticisms. The leader above all should be visionary, a role
model, inspiring and as well encourage people not to give up on a project. These qualities are
fundamental to leadership, and I should acquire all of them in leadership and governance of a
project.
Secondly, a good leader must possess accountability traits. Accountability can be defined
as the acknowledgment as well as an assumption of responsibility for doings, decision, and
administration including policies, governance within the specific scope in the role of the project.
Through accountability, the leader can foster trust in listening the individuals' views on a project
set up. An accountable leader can stand with the failures and successes of the project. This makes

me prepare well because I am intruded with the knowledge of being accountable for project
governance and the latter nation.
Thirdly this unit will make me understand that a leader should be perspective and hold
the quality of balance more so in project supervision. This means that a leader should look things
and actions in different insights. The leader as well should be transparent. This enables one to
hold the perception of trust among the individuals. The unit explains that a leader for good
governance should balance the people’s beliefs with calculated and illustrated figures in a
project. Perspective will make a leader in implementing new ways of operation which by the
quality of transparency will improve the nation's state. It will make people feel considered by the
professionalism and one who is equipped with leadership skill, as well this quality will make the
people not to come up with demonstrations ways of solving differences but call for negotiation
for the belief they have in the leader.
Fourthly, through this unit, I will get informed that a leader should possess values or
community in supervising and governing a project. This is fair intrinsic qualities that one has. It
helps one in decision making. In the project management, one should build character. Values can
be based regarding aesthetic considerations, knowledge, moral grounds or both combined. A
leader should choose values which define him/her well. This values will help in building
character. The values can be influenced by society and culture. Value reflects the culture and
holds social elements and principles. This unit helps me in leading in any project management.
This value is the essential quality in leading effectively, also makes the leader aware of the
philosophical beliefs as well as values regardless of whether you agree with them. Since values
tell us about the leader, it influences one in decision making which affects negatively or
positively in a project organization.
