1. Introduction:
Project management is considered as the application of the tools, techniques,
knowledge and skills which very much important to address a project management process
successfully (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017). A basic type of project management plan always
have some basic steps which includes project imitation, planning, monitoring, controlling and
executing and project closing. These techniques of the project management is used for
successfully execute the project goals, project resources and the most important which is the
project schedule. The aim of this essay is to describe the project management techniques
which will be followed to organise the upcoming event of the FIFA World Cup tournament
2022. For organizing the event of the FIFA World Cup successfully the manager of the
project needs to evaluate many parameters regarding the 2022 FIFA World Cup which will
addressed by this essay.
To successfully conduct this event the processes of the Prince2 will be identified and
elaborated properly which are required for managing the project stakeholders properly. In this
context of the stakeholder management critical stakeholder for the event will be identified
successfully. Following the determination of the critical stakeholders the ways by which the
lean project management can be implemented in this event will be discussed thoroughly. In
this case mainly the opportunities will be discussed where the maximum of waste can be
eliminated. In the further section of this essay processes from the PMBOK, Organizational
Project Management, PRINCE2, Lean Six Sigma and the Agile Practices will be discussed
that can be used and can be implemented in the management of lean project.

2. Identification of the Stakeholders and Management of the Stakeholder:
2.a Processes of PRINCE2 for Stakeholder Management:
The management of the stakeholders is very much important for every projects as the
stakeholders performs a huge role in the success of the project. In this it also same for the
FIFA World Cup 2022 event and management of the stakeholders is also important for this
event. Thus in this the process of the PRINCE2 will be elaborated which is very much
important to consider for the successful stakeholder management. In the method of the
PRINCE2 it is clearly stated that it consists total number of six steps and all the processes are
important for the stakeholder management (Hinde, 2018) of the FIFA 2022 World Cup event
management. These processes of the PRINCE2 is described in the following discussion.
The first process of the PRINCE2 for the stakeholder management is the identification
of the stakeholder. For any type of stakeholder management first of all it is very much
important to identify the necessary stakeholder for the project. Without proper identification
of the stakeholders further management of them is totally useless and it is a wastage for the
whole project. The process of the PRINCE2 states that design need to be developed for the
management of the stakeholder which will actually help to identify the genuine stakeholder
for the concerned project.
In the process of the PRINCE2 for the successful management of the stakeholders the
next step is the analysis of the identified stakeholders (Matos & Lopes, 2013). The main aim
of the analysis is that how much influence each of the stakeholder is having on the event of
FIFA 2022 World Cup. By the analysis if this perfect priority can be given to the stakeholder
according their influence on the project.
It is very much important that every stakeholders of the project is engaged with the
project actively which is also a basic principle of the successful stakeholder management.

The process of the PRINCE2 also gives the same statement on the management of the
stakeholder. According to the process of the PRINCE2 it is very much important creating a
design for the engagement of the stakeholders with the project (Ilin et al., 2014). From the
PRINCE2 it has been identified that one of the basic requirement for perfect stakeholder
management is the effective communication. An effective communication is required for
efficiently circulating a message which is very much important for the stakeholder
engagement with the project.
Planning the engagement of the stakeholder with the project is also important for the
effective management of the stakeholder. As per the process of the PRINCE2 different types
of stakeholders are engaged with a project in a different type of way. Thus without proper
engagement plan these stakeholders of the project can conflict with each other and due to the
efficiency of the project will be reduced which is not desirable at all. Thus the process of
planning is important for the stakeholder management.
Monitoring and Controlling of the engagement of the stakeholders is very much
important for the stakeholder management (Meredith et al., 2016). This is a process of the
PRINCE2 which need to be executed on a regular basis. It is implemented so that the
stakeholder management process becomes more effective in nature. This process does not
holds any type of specific actions but it basically holds the stakeholder communication
review and information gathering.
The last process of the effective stakeholder management is the result measurement.
As per the PRINCE2 this process is used for measuring how effective is the stakeholder
management plan. This is an important process of the stakeholder management to achieve the
utmost efficiency from the project.

2.b Identification of the Critical Stakeholders:
The most important and critical stakeholder for the project of the FIFA 2022 is the
project team itself. They are the most important stakeholders because utmost number of tasks
are done by them. The project team includes project managers and the project workers who
are the employees and the volunteers for this event.
The next critical stakeholders for the project are the event organizers. This includes
the Government, FIFA and the stadium authorities. Without approval of these stakeholders
starting the event is not possible.
Community is the next critical stakeholder for the project. This include the
international and the local groups who promotes football and FIFA.
Again of the most important stakeholder is the viewers of the match itself. Without
the viewers of the football matches the tournament of the FIFA will be totally useless. The
viewers can be the in the stadium itself or can be in front of the TV.
3. Implementing Lean Project Management for the Event:
Implementing the lean project management is very much important for this event
because it actually can improve the execution of the project. The lean project management
can be considered as a typical type of application which mainly includes the lean concepts
(Kliem, 2015). The lean project management is not totally different from the traditional type
of project management rather than it also carries the same principle with the traditional type
of project management. This lean project management helps to remove the waste from the
project and helps to improve the overall performance of the project. According to the
management of lean project, the main applications are the lean manufacturing, lean thinking
and lean construction (Bhamu & Singh Sangwan, 2014). In the process of the lean project
management the waste are created due to the overburden of the process of the manufacturing

and due to the uneven workload. This concept of lean basically eliminates almost everything
from the project which does not provides any types of values to the project. To eliminate the
waste from the project there is some lean principles which need to be implemented. These
lean principle for elimination of the wastage are the focusing on the customer, waste
management and the continuous improvement.

While considering the principle of the lean project management focusing on the
customer is very much important. Thus it need to be ensure that customer satisfaction is
maintained (Hill & Brierley, 2017). For this project the customers can be considered as the
spectators of the FIFA World Cup tournament matches thus satisfaction of the spectators
need to be ensured. To increase of the satisfaction of the spectators the project manager needs

to ensure that spectators are perfectly enjoying the match. To achieve that it need to ensure
that match is visible from the every seats of the stadium. So that the spectators can view the
match. It is not necessary that every football fan or the interested spectators can present at the
stadium. In such of the scenario the project manager needs to ensure that there is a live
telecast system which will broadcast the football matches all over the world live. Thus it will
also help to increase the popularity of the FIFA World Cup. Condition of the matches also
impacts the satisfaction of the spectators. Thus optimal match condition are needed for
ensuring the satisfaction spectators. A tight security is also important to ensure the
satisfaction of the spectators as there are many cases of the violence in the football ground.
Thus the security is heavily important in this case.
Managing of the wastages is also important in the process of the lean project
management. To manage the waste first of all wastages are need to be analysed critically in
the production system (Aziz & Hafez, 2013). By the critical analysis it will be very much
easy to analyse the wastages. From the above discussion it is understood that waste is
practically a unwanted thing which does not holds any value in the production line-up. Thus
in the case of the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament the stadium can be completely waste if it
fails to provide any type of value to the spectators and the playing teams. The football
stadium or the venue becomes a complete waste in the cases when the playground becomes
unsuitable conducting any type of match. A playground can become unsuitable for
conducting a match for various type of reasons. One of the common reason is the natural
disaster. The project manager must guarantee that this type of problems does not bothers the
scheduled matches of the FIFA World Cup tournament. To do that the project manager must
initiate a proper plan and some alternative plan so that any problem regarding the natural
disaster can be avoided. Thus unnecessary wastages can be eliminated and the overall value
of the tournament will be improved.

continuous improvement is considered as the endless process which leads to the project
perfection. In this continuous improvement process the project manager can analyse each of
the activities within the project and can take some appropriate actions to improve each of the
analysed processes (Clark, Silvester & Knowles, 2013). This process of the analysis and
improvement can be repeated by the project managers so that utmost efficiency of the process

improvement can be applied by gathering valuable response from the viewers of the

4. Processes that can be implemented in the Lean Project Management:
Various type of process can be implemented from the PMBOK, Organizational
Project Management, PRINCE2, Agile Practices and from the Lean Six Sigma (DMAIC
Methodology) so that lean project management can be supported. These processes are
described in the following section.
Firstly the PMBOK or the Project Management Body of Knowledge consists total no
of 49 processes which can be implemented for the lean project management in the FIFA
World Cup tournament (Larson & Gray, 2015). All of these 49 processes belongs to the five
common processes of the PMBOK which are the initiating, executing, planning, monitoring
and controlling and the closing. Thus the processes of the PMBOK helps the lean project
management by separating the project in the many parts and each of the process can be
implemented in the lean project management of the FIFA World Cup tournament. The
initiation process can be used for implementing the lean project management by creating a
proper planning for the tournament which will obviously decide by the project manager.
In the case of the PRINCE2 the main processes that can be used for implementing the
lean process is the agile process. The agile processes are very much helpful in the case of the
lean project implementation because it provides a great adaptably which is greatly needed for
the implementation of the lean project management (Jeston, 2014). Thus in this way the

process can effectively reduce the defect rates in a project (Rafique & Mišić, 2013). Thus
quality of the project is improved and lean project management is achieved.
The Lean Six Sigma or the DMAIC methodology also contributes to implement the
lean project management technique by the process of the problem solving (Kumaravadivel &
Natarajan, 2013). The process of the problem solving includes the steps of define, measure,
analyse, improve and control. This steps are used for the implementation of lean project
management because this process of the problem solving uses some statistical methods. By
the use of these statistical methods it can be determined easily whether a lean project
management has improved or not and what can be done to improve the project. Thus the
implementation of the lean project management is assisted.

5. Conclusion:
From the above discussion it is derived that the implementation of the lean project
management is very much important for the successful completion of any project
management. The main target of the lean project implementation is to eliminating the waste
from the project and improving the execution of the project. This essay has elaborated the
importance of the stakeholder management in a project management. Thus for managing
these stakeholders effectively process from the PRINCE2 has been chosen and elaborated
properly. This essay also deals with a very prestigious event which is the 2022 FIFA World
Cup tournament. Thus this essay has successfully identified the critical stakeholders for this

how this helps in the proper project management has been described briefly. Following that
the ways in which the concept of the lean project can be applied for the 2022 FIFA World

for implementing the lean project management. Following that the processes from the
PMBOK, PRINCE2, Agile Practices, Lean Six Sigma (DMAIC Methodology) and
Organisational Project Management (OPM) has been identified and elaborated briefly that are
used for the implementation of the lean project management. From this section various types
of processes has been identified which are having an active contribution to the application of
the lean project management. From the Agile practices the process which helped in
implementation of the lean project management was the acceptance criteria-driven
development.
