Working on team conflicts and negotiations
Jed smith, Paul Jones and Georgina have recently completed their graduation degree
from Deakin University and among three of them Paul Jones was assigned to a music festival
arrangement project. Due to a recent natural bushfire the Marysville is devastated and
destroyed. The local music festival has been arranged and planned to be organize with local
sponsorships. A group of local business have all come together and they would like to
support and sponsor for the local festival. The MLBG is interested to offer some funding for
the successful delivery and arrangement of the local music concert. During the development
and planning of the program various team conflict and negotiation can be occurred those
required to be managed successfully. If the team members belong to different location then
the main reason for which problems occur are communication gap and cultural gaps.
In order to resolve the issue of team conflict and negotiation the project manager
requires setting a standard or benchmark. That shared norms and regulations needs to be
followed by all the project team members. Apart from this, the other thing that has to be
followed by the project team members is use of open communication. The open
communication provides the project team members a common platform to share individual’s
ideas and creativities. Even of any negotiation occurred then those can also be resolved with
the help of open communication approach. The other thing which helps to resolve the conflict
team work includes lack of skills and knowledge among the project team members.
Management style that has to be followed
Different types of management styles are there which requires to be followed by the
project manager and project team members. In order to plan and implement the music concert
show the management style needs to be followed is persuasive management style. This style

shares characteristic associated to autocratic management. The assigned persuasive manager
should take the responsibility of appropriate decision making however they needs to share
much of the time with their working project team or employees. Before taking any
organizational decision proper discussion must be conducted among the project associates
and employees. Beside this the other management style that needs to be followed by the
project associates includes Laissez Fire management style. According to this style the
manager not only plays the role of a project manager but also take the responsibility of
becoming a mentor for the team members. In this approach the employees will be empowered
to take charges directly whereas; the managers play back roles. It helps the employees to
flourish new creativities.
Hierarchy for approaching the project
In order to prepare and deliver any project the project managers needs follow the
basic hierarchy. As soon as a project gets prepared it cannot be implemented or launched
before taking approval from the senior project manager. Using previous professional skills
and knowledge the project team members need to prepare the project scope statement and
outline first. Then the project ideas should be re examined and re evaluated by the project
developers, designer. As soon as the project outline is prepared it should be approved by the
project manager. As the project manager approves the final project draft it is handed over to
the project sponsors. The project sponsors and project manager both make sure that whether
the project will be accomplished within assigned deadline or not.
Matrix/synthesis required
In order to design and arrange this musical show the project manager needs to follow
some matrix and synthesis such as Risk Assessment matrix (RAM), RACI matrix, [project

planning matrix and change management matrix. Starting from the project planning phase
each of these matrices needs to be followed respectively. The RAM matrix is developed to
identify, prioritize and develop risk mitigation approaches. On the other hand, the RACI
matrix is used to identify the person, who is responsible, accountable, consulted and informed
for the successful completion of ach project activities.
Internal conflict management
This type of conflicts mainly takes part within person. Whenever the morale of any
person is tested the internal conflict occurs. Infact, performance of any person gets negatively
impacted with internal conflicts.
External conflict
External conflicts associate to any project deals with outside forces. All types of
outside forces are needed to be managed and mitigated as well with implementation of proper
project management style.
Outsourcing –consolidated style and democratic style
Among two of these outsourcing for this particular project democratic style should be
followed by both the project manager and team members. Democratic leadership style is
much essential for the successful implementation of the project. This leadership style is all
about mutual respect. In most cases this style of leadership is combined with participatory
leadership. It will help to create collaboration between the associate people and project
leaders. This particular leadership style helps to place significant responsibilities to all the
project team members. This approach is true for all business organizations and project
associates. In other words, it can be said that participative leadership will help to collaborate

all project team members so that the project team members can meet the project objectives
and aims.
Best practices and recommendation
Evaluation of training and development: The owners need to arrange professional
project training and development program. It will improve the professionalism, skills and
knowledge of project team members.
Proper communication: The project team members need to use professional open
communication to share their views and ideas with the rest of the project team members. It is
assumed that, this communication technique can resolve the chances of errors, internal
conflict and external conflict level errors.
Professional leadership and management style: The project head requires
possessing proper leadership and management approach to guide and monitor the rest of the
project team members.
Developing accurate project constraints: The project manager and project team
members are required to assume appropriate project triple constraints in terms of scope, time
and budget. In other words, based on project requirements time, budget and scope should be
measures before initiating the project.
