5 PROJECT MANAGEMENT PRINCIPLES Task 2: Executive summary: The analysis of project case study has been considered in this report. Detailed assessment of the project provides various ethical issues such as breach of honesty, responsibility, fairness and integrity. Lack of proper planning, execution followed by irresponsible activities of regional director has delayed the project requiring additional time and budget for completing the project. Introduction: Investigation for the project delay revealed that there were various issues that has delayed the execution and completion of the project. Activities like not to inform about design flaws even if he had the information, not providing details about communication with the client to the accountants investing the project after delay are some of the instances that right from the beginning of the project, regional director was not responsible enough which lead to project delay Ethical analysis of the case: Summary of the ethical issues: Respect for client interest is an important ethical value according to the PMI code ethics. However, this aspect was not taken into account, as delay in the project will require additional investment from client, which will affect the financial resources of the client company, and it will lead to loss in the business as well for the client. Effect on the key and fundamental ethical principles: Even if a project has a well-defined and well-planned project schedule, delay might happen in project. PMI code of ethics does not consider delay in project as a violation of ethics, but what is considered as violation ethicsis delay of project due to lack of
6 PROJECT MANAGEMENT PRINCIPLES responsibility in the project. Here in this case study, lack of responsibility is evident. Regional director was not responsible enough in execution of his project related roles and this is what caused delay in the project. Hence, this is a violation of ethics according to the PMI code of ethics, which includes responsibility as an important ethical value in project management context. After the initial investigation, the accountant, inspecting the project, has informed regional director that additional 7 to 10 million is required. It was also informed to the director that this cost is just an estimate and this does not include claim for compensation. However, when the regional director communicated with the client about the required cost for executing the delayed project, he communicated that only 4 to 5 million is required. Now there might be various reasons for that and one possible reason might be to keep the client satisfied with information that is false. Not only that, it was also violation of honesty, fairness and integrity, which are the important components of PMI code of conducts, not followed in this context. Description of the relevant facts: There were some design related flaws and this information was known to the regional director, but he has not communicated it with project authority which was needed in the project Regional director had some informal communication with the client about the delay, but he has not communicated this information with concerned parties of the project Althoughcommunicationhappenedbetweentheregionaldirectorandfinancial director of the client company, the accountant did not know it. Therefore, when the financial director of the client company contacted the accountant, it was confusing to

7 PROJECT MANAGEMENT PRINCIPLES him as he was not aware of the previous communication and any project related information, which might have been shared between the two parties. Description of the affected parties: In this case, the client company and their respective customers have been affected for the delay in the project. Breach of PMI code of ethics: Here in this context, the actions, which could possibly breach PMI code of ethics, are described. These actions are: Not providing assistance to the client company to execute the project even through it is delayed Not accepting faults for delay in the project and accusing the client company instead Budget and schedule designed for executing the project with the delay is not well planned Informationregardingmodifiedscheduleandbudgetisnotcorrectandfalse information is provided to the client to the client Recommendations following the PMI framework: Communicate with actual details regarding delay in the project Provide a schedule that is not to impress the client, but realistic and feasible enough to execute as well Detail assessment of the critical tasks that needs to be execute first is required as every project has some tasks that are important and critical than others. When a project is delayed, it is important to identify those tasks and finish them first to bring back the project on track
8 PROJECT MANAGEMENT PRINCIPLES If extra source is required including extra funding, it is important to communicate that information with the client and arrange those resources so that the project is not delayed further and in this context it is extremely important to provide correct and detailed information with the client
