Project Proposal: [IoT in Smart Cities] Background IoT in one of the emerging technology which is approximately being used by 70 percent of the world’s population and besides this they are also expected to live in cities which would be getting a rapid urban growth and has already been associated with placing a considerable strain upon the existing infrastructure and along with this more people are making a move towards urban living and this is only getting worse in the coming years. For this reason in order to accommodate the new demands on the cities the municipalities all around the globe has been associated with turning around to the innovations of the Internetofthings so as to enhance the services along with reducing the costs and improving the communication and interaction. The key technology which lies behind the success of eth smart city initiative is the IoT Technology. IoT generally refers to the network of physical connected devices which includes the vehicle or home appliances which are generally associated with enabling of the things so as to get connected and exchange the data, this in turn is associated with the creation of a never-before seen opportunities so as to cover ha physical as well as the digital aspects by making use of the data analytics for the purpose of improving the efficiency and drive the economic benefits and for improving the livelihood. Unlocking the values of the IoT would be responsible for allowing the cities having the commitment of becoming smart, to gather along with aggregating and normalization of the information from the applications of the city and this in turn would be responsible for paving a way for the smart cities and would be affecting everything that is from lightning, traffic, parking and waste management as well. This initiative would also be involving citizen engagement along with making sure of their safety and security as well. Lastly would be associated with the development of new as well as comprehensive ecosystem for the purpose of empowering the city managers. IoT is associated with helping in having a more efficient water supply as the IoT is having the potential to transform the ways in which the cities are associated with consuming the water. Implementation of the smart meters is likely help in improving leak detection and data integrity and also in other ways. Besides this there are also other advantages such as the providing an innovative solution for managing the traffic congestion, providing of more reliable public transport, providing of energy efficient buildings, improvedpublicsafetyandmanymore. Objectives To understand the Advantages of IoT in smart cities To understand the challenges that are likely to be faced by the IoT in Smart cities. To understand the ways in which the IoT is helping the peoples living in the smart cities. To understand the different applications of IoT in the Smart cities Scope: The scope of this project includes a brief understanding of the IoT technology and how this technology is being implemented in the smart cities. Smart cities is considered to be an urban area which is associated with the usage of various electronic data collection sensors so as to supply the information which in turn is used for the purpose of managing the assets and the resources in an efficient way. The smart city concept is associated with integration of the information as well as the communication technology and different physical devices which are connected to the network for the purpose of optimizing the efficiency of the city operations and services and for getting connected with the citizens. In order to successfully increase the efficiency the governments should be associated with enhancing the services and improving the quality of life for the residents and for this there is a need of a platform which would be helping in powering up of the IoT applications for the mart cities. The right one would be associated with aggregating, processing and interpreting the

Different objects which are being used in our daily life are being equipped with different electronic devices as well as protocols so as to make sure that they are interconnected along with being connected to the environment as well. It is expected that in future almost 50 billion connected objects would be deployed in the smart cities by the year of 2020. The connected objects would be associate with making the cities become smart but certainly there also some risks as well. Different kind of risks as well as privacy issues opens up. Connectivity is the biggest factor that is capable of creating a potential damage to the dream of smart cities. Absence of strong connectivity between thousands or millions of devices existing all across the city would be responsible for making the IoT devices become obsolete and would be making the smart city technology dead.
